Alright, maybe we will just end up back in BVIs! The open waters and high winds have scared us from the Grenadines. Anyone that has done BVIs tried the Abacos or Exumas? We love snorkeling, deserted beaches, protected bays... We have done 2 x trips on powercats in the BVIs and love it but was wondering what else was out there....

Seriously, how many flipping threads, 3 so far, are you gonna start on a BVI forum about alternative sailing places? You're on a power cat. You can go anywhere you want, unless you don't know how to sail.

We have done many sailing cruises in the BVIs and Abacos. Love them both. The Abacos has warmer water, much better beaches, shallow live reefs, plenty of islands to enjoy in many ways. An easy hop on a plane from Florida. They were settled during/after the revolutionary war by loyalists to the crown, so lots of interesting history. No Soggy Dollar, but Nippers on Great Ghana is rockin. BUT, you have to watch the shallows, be aware of the tides, and live without beautiful mountains and deep water. The BVIs are well known to everyone on this forum, so no details needed, except to point out that the trade winds in the BVIs are way better than the uneven winds in the Abacos. Bottom line: do them both and have a blast.

Sorry, love the BVIs and know that people here will be able to compare them for me. Your input is greatly appreciated. Thanks for the help. Sorry you had to move your eyes past one more thread. ROFL. Peace.

The Bahamas definitely have beautiful beaches and crystal clear waters but in the winter months the water is quite a bit colder then the VI.
The easiest place to sail are the US and British VI it’s all eyeball.

If you do the Abacos, you definitely want to do the summer months and be on a Cat, Lots of shallow water,

Spent almost two weeks sailing the Exumas. Much better beaches and islands than the BVI, but less sailing. Winds are very light...lots more motoring and you have to watch for shallows. More of a remote feel...some places you may be the only boat.

Sounds great. We are going to try the Exumas in April 2020.
