Lerici, Italy is a small port town on the Bay of Poets in Liguria, Italy.

Skipped by many because of the allure of Tuscany, this small town offers some amazing sites, foods, and place you always dreamed of to spend some time with someone you love.

Please post a picture of a special place that you have seen in your travels that you would like to share with your TTOL Friends. The world is a big place,
but maybe a TTOL friend can give you a hint where to go to next.

I believe Joan Soncini (TTOL Soncijo) spends time here. I've seen some fabulous pictures she has taken, and thankfully, she loves to photograph the food too!!

I was lucky enough to live in the next town over for a month. A very special time and place! And yes you are correct...

The SEAFOOD in Liguria is AMAZING! The white wines from the region come from grapes named Bosco and Vermintino which are crisp, clean, and simple.

[Linked Image]

Liguria, the region where one will find Lerici, is worth a few days for Italian travellers.

Bowrider I would be more than happy to send you a high resolution copy if I get a first right of refusal when you finish the painting.

TomB,
I know it is not the same as a real hand painted piece of art, but you can get your picture put on canvas. Costco, WalMart, and probably others can do that for you, and they don't look half bad. I think you have a choice of sizes, so it will fit your desired hang location perfectly.

So true, hand painted by WalMart just doesn't sound right.

In Nurnberg, there is also a Wein Stuben (Wine Room) right around the corner that serves meals. I went there often with my parents in the 1950's. I was able to find it over 50 years later when we were on a river cruise in 2009. Paul and I had lunch there. It was exactly the same as I remembered it. Sue

swg you figured it out - Great Shot!

I have never seen that aqueduct. When I was 15 I was a foreign exchange student in Salamanca, Spain. I remember going to Segovia and being totally blown away by construction the aqueduct there. To blow away a 15 year old with something that was 1000s of years old - it had to be impressive.

What amazed me it was still being used in 1972!

Is the aqueduct in the picture still being used?

Hi Tom,

The first Roman aqueducts that I saw were in Rome when I was 11 years old. (58 years ago). Also blew me away.

Pont de Gard is both the ruins of a bridge (pont) and the aqueduct. It is no longer in use and part of a national park if I remember correctly.

What was so amazing was that there was exactly one degree of incline from the Gard River to Nimes about 15 miles away! Even our engineer friend we were traveling with was awe struck.

Sue

Amazing indeed, I like the way the cars in the picture give them scale. It would be cool to be able to time travel to see how they figured this stuff out!

Hi Tom.....spending a few days in Lerici next summer. That picture of the seafood platter is amazing! What is the name of the restaurant so we could put it on our list. Thanks

Tannyanny,

Wow you had to dig deep to find that post.

The restaurant where the picture was snapped of that particular dish was in Monterosso.

Depending on your perspective Monterosso is the last or the first village in the Cinque Terre. The village that is the further west than it's sister towns. Both Lerci and the Cinque are in the region called Liguria.

As for restaurants in Lerci, if you look at the first picture and see the harbor - If you would keep walking to the right another 20 yards you would see a tunnel that goes through the mountain underneath the castle. If you walk through that tunnel you will find a wonderful restaurant for lunch or a late afternoon glass of wine and antipasti.

The dish I love is Frutti di Mare and every village does it a little different and always with fresh seafood. We were in Porto Venere and I ordered Frutti di Mare. The waiter ran down to a boat that had just returned and what was on the boat was on my plate 20 minutes later. I hope you love seafood and I am sooooooo jealous.

Bow Rider - how is the painting coming?

I did find a company online that did a very nice job of blowing the Lerici picture to a 24x36. You can even see the faces of people and the detail of seagulls flying above.

Here is a blog I did while staying in Liguria couple of years ago.
There are some shots of Lerici

Hi Tom,
I saw that picture the very first day that you posted it. We were just beginning to talk about going back to Italy to celebrate our 45 anniversary. When we decided to visit Liguria I remembered your post and yes, I did have to dig to find it again!
Thanks for the info on Lerici...I enjoyed your blog so much.
We will be going to Lake Como, Parma, Lerici and Santa Margherita. It's now turned into a family trip so it should be so much fun!
Thanks again, Marilyn

Tannyanny,

I forgot some of the links in the blog were broken when Photobucket went to the new format.

Here is a link to the picture show of Lerici and San T.: Lerici and San T

I need to go back and rebuild all the links in the blog... yuck... maybe on a snowy day this winter.

One thing FOR SURE while in Lerici is catch the ferry across the bay to Portovenere. Short Ride across the water. A very nice town to visit and great for photos. I will try to rebuild that picture link tomorrow.

Not sure exact dates and where you are headed first, but we found flying into PISA offered us the best price. In fact we flew into Pisa with a stop in Paris and out of Milan direct to DC (IAD)- The trip was an Air France/Delta was about $850.

If you are headed to Lake Como and Lerici investigate going and coming out of a different airport. Just bookend those destinations. Stay away from traveling Sunday and Monday going to Europe - prices seem insane and usually businessman drive the price. Round Trips from the same airport is not always the cheapest these days.

Happy Hunting.
