Back in the days when L'Alabama was open in Grand Case, we often would stop in at the art gallery next door after our dinner there. We bought several pieces of Robert Lynn's work although they also had work by Peter Lynn and Gloria Lynn. On our last several trips to Grand Case we have noticed that the space is always shuttered. I was wondering if anyone knows where I can still purchase works by Robert Lynn. I heard they moved off island but don't know if that is true. We really loved his work and would love to have more for our home.

I've bought some work from a lady signing her paintings as "Lynn". She had a booth at the Marigot Market. never got her last name or first, if Lynn was her last.

Robert Lynn died several years ago. I, too, bought a couple of pieces from him, the first nearly 23 years ago. His son, Peter, lives and paints in New York City.

Like the OP, my wife and I would stop in and have a pleasant chat with the Lynns after a dinner in Grand Case. He would tell us about life on island when they move to St. Martin in (I think) 1970. We would look at their art, and then be on our way.

Grand Case, those conversations and a lot more, unfortunately, is what St. Martin use to be.

Sorry to hear that he passed away. Buying art was always part of our early trips to the island. We bought a few Minguets before he died and I even remember buying a Roland Richardson right off the wall at Le Pressoir while having dinner. The old owner used to display local artists' work that was for sale as part of the decor. I guess I am grateful to have found him when he was still alive. It is all over my home and gives me much joy.

Thank you for that info. The last time we visited with the Lynns they were discussing a possible move to St. Lucia - sorry to hear that the place closed becaused he passed away instead of moved.
I remember conversations with them back in the mid 90's when they would tell us that that they were so distraught about what happened to their beautiful island. To see it now would probably have killed them. They had a stunning collection of photos of island life from their early years in St. Martin, and I think you are correct about the timeframe they moved there. I believe that many of the photos were the inspirations for his paintings.
I only have one Lynn original and many prints (could not afford his originals even in the 90's) but we cherish them all the same. There is a whole gallery wall of his work in my home and I smile every day when I pass it - not only remembering my wonderful times with them but my early vacations in St. Martin.
I am in NYC so I will try to contact Peter to see if any of his father's work is still available and will let everyone on the board know the answer.

Martin Lynn and Gloria Lynn lived in the small house/studio on the boulevard in Grand Case. They also had a home on Saba. Martin was a sculptor and did the lady at the market in Marigot. Lynn did seriographs, mostly of local island ladies. Lynn moved back to New York after Martin died. Their 2 sons, Peter and Robert, also did seriographs of local ladies in the same style as their mother, but in more subtle colors. They were a very talented family. I have seen some of their work on EBAY.

I reached out to Peter Lynn yesterday and he responded immediately. I was confused about how many Lynns there are.

Peter clarified for me that his father Martin was the scupltor who did the Marigot Market piece and he died a few years ago. His mother Gloria is currently living in NYC. Peter and his wife used to live in NYC but have relocated to Sante Fe. Robert, his brother, lives in the Beacon Hill section in St. Maarten. Peter's website is www.peterlynnstudio.com and his email address is ptrlyn1@gmail.com . He gave me the loacl phone number for his brother but I do not feel comfortable posting it here. He said if you wish to contact any of the Lynns it is best to do it through him. He does have some of his prints of SXM scenes available for sale on his website - no prices listed.

Robert Lynn is alive and well and still living in St. Martin.
Martin Lynn, who produced the sculpture at the Marigot Market passed away several years ago. Gloria Lynn, his wife, just recently relocated to Vermont from New York City. Wow! How great to hear all of the interaction on this forum about Martin and Gloria Lynn. I adored Gloria's wonderful paintings of the island women, but could not resist purchasing a sculpture of Martin's.
At this time I have been researching the value of his work. The statue I own is a single seated woman looking down with her head in her hand. It is approximately 12x13 inches.
