Been to Orient Beach a few times since we've been here and I have to say there is one thing that is frustrating us and a lot of our fellow beach dwellers.......the apparently recent advent of people feeling the need to feed the fish. Folks are bringing what appears to be leftover bread and walking into the water and being surrounded by schools of fish waiting for their meal. The problem with this practice is that when other swimmers wander into the water the fish go "Oh Boy; FOOD" and proceed to bite at anything that resembles a piece of bread. Yep, you guessed it, they're "nipping" the ladies. It has happened to several of our beach mates (and my wife) and in one case caused bleeding. Please help us all by NOT feeding the fish. Thank you.

In the past, there have been some 'issues' with fish biting men in a bad place, if you know what I mean! Thanks for the note!

They've been doing it for years. That's why the fish are so aggressive.

Yep, great use of left over baguette. Might want to keep one hand near the jewels during peak frenzie.
There is a local man who brings a whole loaf of bread and walks the length of the beach feeding his fish. He gets a little perturbed when you feed his fish at the same time and a few stray off his school.
He is still around after Irma, saw him in January.

I've seen him every time at Orient. Some people don't like him doing that but I have no problem with it.

Bread is not healthy for the fish. Please don't feed them. The idiot who walks in the water with a bag of baguettes is there for the thrills, and he has ruined that end of the beach,

This was posted on a post on TripAdvisor:
"this was copied from an environmental awareness site. “ Bread contains yeast and when eaten by fish, it will expand and can cause constipation for most fish. The most resilient fish will survive however others will disappear as they suffer and the predators take them. “ NOT A WISE IDEA.

Someone told me dog biscuits will bring fish to you while snorkeling. Are those bad too? Since they are made for dogs...probably not the best choice.

Someone told me dog biscuits will bring fish to you while snorkeling. Are those bad too? Good grief! Don't you people realize what you are doing? The "baquette man" has no idea what the he!! he is doing.
