Hey guys, so I have read that St. Martin is considered the culinary capital of the Caribbean. This is part of the reason we wanted to go as my SO loves to cook and eat just like me. My question is, we are just a couple of 20 something year olds and cant be spending $100 a meal. Breakfast will be simple as we love the French bakeries and will just pickup something there. But I was wondering if you guys have any recommendations on moderately priced restaurants that we should visit! We eat pretty much anything but SO is allergic to shell fish. Other seafood is fine. Looking for ideas on moderate, sit down, preferably close to the beach restaurants. Any beach works as we have a car. Thanks for any info you guys have!

The Spaghetti House SXM, in Jordan Village at Cupecoy and just down the block from Jules Bakery and across the street from Fat Tony’s is very good and extremely reasonable by island standards.

Respectfully,

Pat, exactly what I am looking for! We love pasta so we will definitely be headed there. Very fairly priced. Thanks!

Some of our favorites for a less expensive meal:

Mark's Place. Not on a beach, but the great food at reasonable prices makes up for its location. While it’s set in the grocery store parking lot, once you're inside it’s a pleasant atmosphere. We like the fish, chicken and ribs. There are always lots of local residents stopping by for orders to go.

Lolos. The small open air cafes grouped together by the beach in Grand Case. They usually feature grilled chicken or ribs with several sides. Talk of the Town is a popular one on the street side, but there are several to choose from.

Greenhouse. A popular place by the water in Philipsburg, plus with a second location in the Simpson Bay area. A diverse menu but there are some less expensive sandwiches, burgers, etc., and they have a 2 for 1 drink offer during happy hour.

Yacht Club. Set by the draw bridge in Simpson Bay it’s a great place to watch the boats come and go during bridge openings. We usually go for breakfast but they draw lots of people for happy hour too and their menu is reasonably priced.

IMO, the best place for inexpensive, local eats is Yvettes. You can get a nice plate for $10 (they may have raised prices since I was last there) that includes some meat and 3-4 side dishes--johnny cakes, fries, salad, etc. Ok, we eat the $15 plates, and I load up on apps and Ti Punches ala Gabriel, but we have no control.

Also try Le Taitu as their French lunch selections can't be beat for some $14. Salad, Plate, and drink for that price.

Ital's on Bush road should not be missed. Vegetarian meals, no alcohol, but wonderfully flavored farm to table eats. Makes me happy after the excesses of normal island cuisine.

None of these are beach front but great tasting, local cuisine, and very inexpensive.

Marks, Toppers, LoLo's, Pineapple Pete and Lee's when it opens are just a few.

I would like to add Yellow Sub and Bakery or Rancho Del Sol for pizza... My favorite was Dinghy Dock in Oyster Pond no longer open since Irma but they did open a second location near the airport. I have not been to DD but I would guess the menu would be the same?

Little Jerusalem in Simpson Bay. Shwarma plate for 2 with bottle of wine $30. Captain's in SB for great ribs, chicken, and grilled fish. Eat in or take out. I also second Dinghy Dock.

Probably one of the best sandwiches I've ever had would be the Schwarma special at Little Jerusalem in Simpson Bay and
I come from the land of great bread and the home of cheesesteaks.
Although not on inexpensive side, if you are going to splurge and try lobster thermidor, Pineapple Pete's is reasonably priced.
Captains D's roadside grill is great for take out.
Grab a pizza at the boatbar in Maho.

Dinghy Dock, Greenhouse, Pineapple Petes, Buccaneers all have marina views at some point in the restaurant.. They offer casual dining with good food and reasonable prices

Sunset Bar & Grill overlooks Maho beach. Don't go when cruise ships are in Port.
We liked Jamtillean for Jamaican cuisine. Also second Mark's Place & SMYC.
Many places on Dutch side offer happy hours with discounted drinks and apps which can easily constitute dinner.
Lagoonies and Bavaria are more choices
The later serves German/Austrian cuisine. Hearty and tasty.

Taco Macho in the parking lot near Sunset Bar & Grill is a good and a bargain, picking up Ribs & Chicken as well as sides between the Atrium and Royal Palm would be a good cost saving idea. Simpson Bay Yacht Club is always fun and has good food, not too expensive. On Mullet Bay you have Rosie's ribs as Pat stated, one of the better bargain beaches although I would note that at Karakter, Marys Boon, and El Zafiro have free beach chairs if you eat there and that brings down the cost and they are on a great beach. My personal favorites would include Lal's (Indian Food with a Rock and Roll influence) which is near Dingy Dock, and at a bit more money The Palms which besides the good food which is a notch up in price the people there are fantastic.

Cheers!

I prefer the Isle seat

I would second (or third) Buccaneer Beach Bar. Fun place to get a VERY casual meal and some drinks. On a beach with decent views

Don't omit Bar Code in Jordan Village near Fat Tony's and the Spaghetti House. All are great for your needs as the Medical School students live nearby.

Another vote for Mark's Place. Huge variety, Great prices, excellent food and service, are a fair trade off for lack of "ambiance".

If you stay in Orient Village, Coda and Le Deuze are both excellent places for lunch. Le Deuze is also open for breakfast. The Beef Carpaccio, Salmon Tartare and Nicoise Salad at Coda are on our favorites list.
