We're also looking at United from EWR (post Thanksgiving through 1st 2 weeks in Dec.) and for a 2 week stay Sat. prices are the best. But the basic economy seems too risky. Last year it was $357 on the Sun. after Thanksgiving.

Basic economy seems too risky? What do you mean by risky? Just pay more to get a seat assigned and/or to check bags.

Actually, that's what I meant. We want our carry-ons Luggage does get and has gotten delayed. For instance one of the flights we're considering is $440 basic/$500 enhanced. That extra $60 pp is worth it to ensure that we get to sit together. And if overbooked, and if no volunteers, guess who gets bumped. That is risky.

I've noticed that many flights that were previously listed are now "not available". I'm thinking that possibly they were originally on a Max. But it wouldn't be unusual for me to be wrong.

I read this morning that supposedly the FAA may approve the Max to fly again relatively soon. The airlines are stuck with those planes and they can't just dump them, so they will be flying again sooner or later. ...although the thought of flying on one doesn't give me a warm fuzzy right now though.

I just read that the 737 Max 8 may not fly again till next year. They have found several others problems and even the design is not deemed to be safe. Hope your FAA does not approve them too soon.

It says that Canada and Europe would bring back the aircraft on their own terms and not that of the FAA. They are going to do their own safety certification and I doubt if any of those planes will be in the air in June. Perhaps the USA will certify them as early as that, but hopefully the FAA will take their time and do the job right as they should not have been certified in the first place.
