After lunch, we walked through the Village to take pictures of the menus of the restaurants
there, in preparation for our dinner that evening. We knew there would be entertainment that evening, as well as vendors in the square, which we had never been to, so it sounded fun.
We started off on the right hand side of the square, and took pictures of the menus of all the restaurants located there, and they are presented here somewhat in order, but I’m pretty sure that Cote Plage is on the end of the square, and I think LAtelier is the last one on the far right smile)

Latrattoria –NO menu posted, just took a picture of the sign, to note it was there

[Linked Image]
Cote Plage—sorry for the quality of the picture, as the sun was shining on it, and it was very difficult to photograph

Yellow Sub—again, sorry for the quality of the picture

After checking out all the restaurants, we decided to check out Petit Casino. As far as I know, it is no longer owned by Bruno, formerly of LeCottage and then Dreams. For those jonesing for American junk food, they have it in spades here
[Linked Image]

…As well as a bunch of other stuff.

[Linked Image]The store is CLEAN, air conditioned, and very well stocked.

Afterwards, we headed to Leader Price, which was on the way back toward Grand Case, on the left. It is CLEAN, air conditioned, and they have lots of cheap wines here. I love mimosas for breakfast and try to buy mini champagnes for that purpose on island, but often have problems finding them. Here at LP, I scored a champagne for 2.5E for a full sized bottle. Who cares if I throw away half the bottle!!! No pictures of LP, sorry. LP does NOT have liquor, however.
Upon arrival, we had gone to Hope Market to obtain first day supplies and got most of what we needed, including Bacardi Limon and Tanqueray. Couldn’t find coffee creamer there, which was odd. I found the store didn’t feel clean to me, no a/c, probably won’t go back. Super U is supposed to open next week in Hope Estate. I suspect once they open, Hope Market will be in trouble.

Back to the villa, and we had a couple of rain showers, and then it cleared off. We hung out in the pool for a while, before heading out to Orient Village for dinner around 6:30. I was still jonesing for pizza and since we had had a big lunch, we decided we would go to Le Piment and have pizza. Eric let me off in front of the square and drove down toward the beach to park. I wasn’t certain it wouldn’t rain again, so we requested to sit inside, although there ended up being no rain.
So much for the pizza plans! Both of us looked at the menu and the specials and decided otherwise.

I had a lovely flank steak special with au gratin potatoes

[Linked Image]
I licked the plate.

And Eric also had a special, which was pasta with cuddlefish
[Linked Image]

Afterwards they offered us a shot glass of rhum, which we enjoyed.

We knew that there would be entertainment in the square this evening, which is why we had decided to come on Friday. It was low key and volume, which allowed for easy conversation. There were a few jewelry vendors, which I checked out and wasn’t interested.

[Linked Image] I did enjoy some prints from a local artist named Asif, and I bought 3 for $20 each. That was his original price and I didn’t try to get him to reduce it, as I enjoyed them at first sight.
I apologize for the quality of the photographs, as they don’t do them justice. May try to re-take the photos. I don’t know why, but his first one just made me laugh out loud and I had to have it.

[Linked Image]

The other two are Heineken Regatta and I plan to frame and hang them as a set.

[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]

I don’t think he has a website, although perhaps he has a Facebook page. I asked him for a card, but he did not have one.
Time to head back ‘home’, and we were back safe and sound in our villa at 8:30 PM. Boy, we are real nightowls these days!!! laugh

Great report, loved the menus particularly L'Atelier, interesting and authentic, but the pics and presentation of your meal at Le Piment is making me quite ill looking at, as back on a diet.

bran--So far, our food at Le Piment has been our best meal. We are headed to Anse Marcel Beach Club tomorrow, so have high hopes for that!

We've often said the same thing regarding Le Piment. The Village has recovered nicely and I thank you for the terrific report & photos.

Thanks for the trip reports! We’ll be staying at Esmeralda in a few weeks, our first time back on St. Martin after Irma. It’s good to see Orient Village coming back to life!

We have truly enjoyed staying on the French side this time. First time in a long time. Other than the road construction all over the place, that's been the only annoyance.

We are considering staying in Orient to be near the village and get a feel for just having everything "right there". Thanks for your descriptions and of course...MENUS! wink

Hi Carol,
Asif is a friend of my husband's and mine , a very nice young man & talented artist. We met him many years ago at the GCBC managers party where he would sell his prints. He does have a facebook page for his studio that he rents in Grand Case- Acosta Studio Vacation Rental. You could get in touch with him through there, I'm sure, if you wanted information on his prints.

Carol, You mentioned LP and I know where that is. Where is the Hope Market and where is the Super U in Hope Estates? Is one of these the one that closed two or three years ago?

If you are traveling from Grand Case toward Orient, the Super U is before Hope Market and Hope Market is before the roundabout at Cul de Sac, and then Leader Price is after the roundabout. All are on the right side of the road. I honestly don't know what was there before, or don't remember, anyway. The Super U is in a parking lot all by itself.

And sort of speaking of which, we got carry out pizza from Al Dente last night for dinner. Good pizza! We had never been inside there, and it is quite cute inside, with good a/c. I don't know that we would get back there this trip, but I definitely would go back and eat there this time.

It sounds as if Super U is new construction. Is Hope Market in the site previously occupied by Simply & others? I could be wrong and often am.

Al Dente is great. We've never had their pizza, but their pasta entrees are delicious and generous. And we especially enjoyed their anti-pasta appetizer.

Biturbo--Sorry, I really don't know, as far as your questions. It's been a long time since we've stayed over here.

Al Dente is always o our list and we never make it

But for Pizza - two others on our list that we have yet to try
Enzo Pizza - yellow? truck pretty close to Al Dente - Oliver of Orange Fever recommended it to us
and the Pizza truck in Marigot by the Yacht club - Farfal?. Suspect we will never know as probably not driving to Marigot to pick up a pizza - but pretty sure Wilfred recommended it

We too are fans of the French side

Al Dente was very good. Did take out...… dropped Carol off and I went to Leader Price for some wine -- great prices by the way.... selection is what it is, but what they have is "cheap", so how do you complain. Ok complain, but 3 bottles for under $12 "dollars" not euros give me a …… They have what they have, nothing huge and the whites are limited, but the price works and then some! I can live with what they had.... it was good, not rot gut.... so do not complain... (G)

I must have missed the name of the villa where you are staying. Is it right in the village? We stayed in the village for 3 weeks in April-May in Villa Ester. About a block from all the restaurants and a long walk from Club O beach. Carol and I ate at le Piment about half the evenings we were there. They have so many good meals and the menu changes from time to time. Crystal and Sylvan, the owners, are great people. Crystal always greets us with a hug and kiss and chef Sylvan always gives us a wave from the kitchen. The beef stew is fantastic. Not what you would think it would be. We stopped at Yellow Sub one evening and after being seated, waited and waited for someone to take our order and finally left. We bought quite a few sandwiches from Good Morning to take to the beach. He has a nice selection of sandwiches and makes them in a baguette. Will make one half different than the other half if you wish. We put them in a cooler bag with our drinks and found we could have lunch for about $5. Left some extra money in the budget for our evening meal. Good Morning also has good croissants for breakfast. You will love your evening visits to all the restaurants in the village.
