So if I have been in the BVI on a charter boat say, from CYOA for example, and an returning back into the USVI, does it matter which office I return through. I see there are entry points on St John, St thomas, and St Croix. Assuming that you go strait there and don't stop anywhere.

And, more specifically, if you are chartering from CYOA and want to head strait there from BVI, where would you check in?

To check into the BVI, you can go to West End, Tortola or Great Harbour, JVD. Checking back into the USVI, you'll want to go to Cruz Bay, St. John.

If you want to go directly to CYOA from the BVI you can bring the boat back to CYOA and then walk or taxi directly to the ferry dock (about 500 yards) and clear C&I there.

That said, they are quite surly, and by far the best place to check back in is Cruz Bay, STJ. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Banana.gif" alt="" />

Thanks Twanger, that was what I was looking for. from some other comments I have read about checking in at Cruz Bay it sounded like that may be a hassel with where to "park" the boat.

technically not Walt, you are suppose to check into the nearest C&I, which would be Cruz Bay from BVI. to go to CYOA, you should anchor in Charlotte, raise your courtesy flag and dinghy into customs.

I'm sure you're right Evan, but we've done it a couple of times that way. Maybe that's why they were surly, but they didn't say anything. Anyhoo, it's not where we like to check-in.

Getting to C&I at Cruz is a slight hassle if all you're doing is C&I.
We always combine this with a shopping trip to Mongoose Junction, and maybe even a little lunch.

So on our second-to-last day it goes something like this:

0800 Depart BVI (having been smart enough to check in AND out of the BVI when you first checked in so you really don't have to check out. You just leave)

1100 Arrive in Western Caneel Bay and grab a ball as close to Lind Point as possible. Dingy into Cruz and lock dink at dingy dock near ferry dock. Walk directly to C&I.

1200-1500: Walk to Mongoose Junction, grab some painkillers, maybe lunch somewhere.

1500-1630: Dingy back to mother ship, drop ball and motor sail under jib to Christmas Cove, Great St. James. Drop hook or pick up a ball.

1630-dark: Snorkel, shower, drink some greenies, enjoy last sunset of the trip.

On the morning of the last day we sail to Charlotte Amalie (90 min) grab fuel at Havensight fuel pier and motor over to CYOA. Off the boat by 1200.

Evan: Why would you go to North Carolina?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />
(It's either "Town" or "Charlotte Amalie")
