Grab a twelve pack from Taco Bell before leaving the mainland, they'll keep for at least three days if refridgerated properly. - joking

The new place at Magens Point is Italian and gets good reviews. Mexican- don't know why it is so difficult here. I love the fish tacos at Cariga's, but it's not a Mexican place.

there is a so, so Mexican place in French Town, Loony Bien. We have killer Mexican and Southwest restaurants in Colorado, not usually what we look for on the islands.

Loony Bien in Frenchtown is no more - building is for lease- closed over a month ago. Carigas is in the Independent Boatyard - across from Food Center just west of Red Hook.

As LocalSailor said, Cariga's is at the boatyard. Kinda hard to find, you have to wind your way around all the boats that are hauled out. It is the best food value on St Thomas- and pretty darn tasty. Not fine dining by any means, but fun. Since Molly Malone's raised their prices astronomically, Cariga's is our go-to place for meals any time of the day!! P.S. It is run by Sally and Randy of Randy's on Raphune Hill. Good people.
The place at Magens Point is called Simply Italian. Cafe Roma is/was on St John. They had a fire earlier this year and may still be out of commission.
Okay, went on a trip over to St John today and Cafe Roma is not going to be open any time soon. After the fire, the owners were quoted saying they would reopen, but the roof is completely gone and there is a lot of work to do. Had lunch at the Sun Dog Cafe in Mongoose Junction. Again, while they aren't Mexican, they have quesadillas, burritos, tacos on the menu.

carigas didn't appear to be a good location from the highway, so i kind of wrote it off, but your description now sounds like we have to drop by. thanks again nutmeg. right now, we will go back to big kahuna at happy hour for their great tacos, sunset grille for the portobello sandwich and shipwreck for spaghetti and meatballs - all my husbands favorites!

Well, it IS in the middle of a boat yard. The local boaties are very welcoming. And, as I said, you can't beat the food value.
Have you tried Fish Tails??
