Pleasant surprise.. AA flight - no problem. This time to Club Orient... beach with recovery in progress - still narrow at the eastern end, but no shortage of sand for lounges. Palms planted after 1995 now mature with good shade along with possibility of a coconut drop on the unwary (smile). Record occupancy for August with many taking advantage of the 3 for 2 special - all chalets rented. Note - must have new croissant supplier... that alone would justify a trip from anywhere on the globe!

Perfect weather... while locals complained of heat, it never got past the low 90s... a nice change from this years’ cool summer here in Virginia. Not aware of any local crime, but heard report of a nightclub shooting that raises an alert for travelers to use common sense when enjoying late night entertainments. With the French side on euro pricing... a 12-15% premium to the US$, recommend... if using a credit card, request that debit be made in adjusted US$ to avoid additional bank charges. Apparently, all debits with American Express must be (?) made in euros. Major purchases on the Dutch side may be an advantage.

Back to Orient Beach ... re-inspections and meetings... Hotel L’Hoste acquired the Capri Hotel <formerly one of the 2 units of St. Tropez> ... will be up-graded for opening this winter season <contact us for anticipated specials>. Some changes may occur at St. Tropez’s Boca Raton Hotel later in the year. Green Cay Village, La Plantation, Cap-Caraibes, Caribbean Princess, Esmeralda, and Alamanda Resort and Palm Court Hotel in fine condition. Noting that the new fitness facility at the Alamanda is now tops in the area along with Hotel la Plantation. The café at la Plantation now has special lobster dinner with live music on Mondays... good reports. Due to an eye problem, did not take in our customary variety of new restaurants, but gave Le Bounty a bunch of euros.

And... thanks for an earlier posting on TTOL. I had eye problem at SXM due to old lens implant that required a check by ophthalmologist Dr. Allewaert at Marigot... very impressed with his thorough examination, expertise and reasonable fee. While there was no need to visit the new French hospital in Marigot, others have commented on the improved capability and service there <a welcomed improvement as formerly, “emergencies were by appointment only” .. no kidding>.

Any questions... post .....
