I just heard on a news report that New Yorkers can no longer participate in Global Entry because NY has declared itself "sanctuary" and issues drivers' licenses to illegals. It was stated during an interview with acting director of Health Services regarding coronavirus. But this is not due to the virus but illegals being issued drivers licenses. One America News.

I heard basically the same thing - that no new trusted traveler memberships will be granted to NY State residents because of the decision to grant drivers licenses to undocumented residents along with officials being denied access to the back-up information in these computer systems. Not sure what news I was listening to.
Respectfully,

AON is not one of the more reliable "news" sources. I just applied to renew my GE status and have received approval of my application. And, I live in California, which is also a sanctuary state and issues licenses to illegals.

First I've heard of that. A drivers licence isn't the kind of document that is going to prove citizenship and used for vetting for GE so I don't get the reasoning.

I don't know the purpose of a DL, but your DL number and other info is required on the GE application.

Correct but the DL number without the enhancement doesn't prove citizenship which is why other government ID is required on the application for the vetting process.

OAN (one America network) is NOT news... It's partisan drivel.
I challenge you to find any evidence of this policy in actual news reports or on the dhs web page. (spoiler...I don't think you will Cause this is fake news)

Thanks for posting. I almost thought I had mis understood the news report I had heard. Now it's here in printed backup.

This is just another attempt by the Trump administration to punish a blue state for not towing the Trump line. It will be challenged and overturned by the state of New York in the courts. The two issues are completely unrelated. There is no way that someone who is undocumented could get GE. On applying you have to present extensive documentation and undergo an interview. What undocumented individual would risk an interview and deportation to get GE if they were already in the country?

You will need your passport AND another form of ID to apply for GE....sooooooo how is an illegal going to go to step two.....interview Validity of the reporting makes little sense to me....and VERY suspicious Edit: reporting is accurate....and, as mentioned, it is punitive from the administration. Still can't see how they would get by the passport needed thing NY Times articleThe Trump administration has long taken aim at the state and, more specifically, New York City for “sanctuary city” policies that limit cooperation with ICE. But Mr. Wolf’s decision to suspend enrollment for the programs turned what had most recently been a public relations campaign against local politicians into a punitive policy affecting possibly millions of New Yorkers.
“This is obviously political retaliation by the federal government, and we’re going to review our legal options,” Rich Azzopardi, a senior adviser to Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, said late Wednesday night.

Create an account or log in New Yorkers will not be able to enroll in “Trusted Traveler Programs,” which allow people to cut through long lines at airports if they pass a pre-clearance with the Department of Homeland Security. Participants are granted expedited processing after international travel through the Global Entry program; from Canada through the NEXUS program; and from Canada and Mexico through the SENTRI program.
The Green Light Law was passed last year by New York’s Democratic Legislature and was signed by Mr. Cuomo, a third-term Democrat and frequent antagonist of President Trump. Under the new law, county and state motor vehicles departments could accept applications for licenses, regardless of immigration status.
It provoked a sharp backlash in some moderate suburban communities as well as in some more conservative areas upstate. Several county officials refused to comply or sued to stop the law, though it proved popular in liberal enclaves like New York City.
Good pick up RonDon...I didn't see the report

NYS DMV is now prohibited by law from providing criminal records to CBP and ICE which does make it hard to conduct a background check on a New York resident. But that is a thin veil over the real issue.

I'm going to let this go a little longer because the original topic is about Global Entry, but all this political talk WILL STOP. NOW.

But that is a thin veil over the real issue. I know this will turn political at some point. But NYS is a hot mess. Just saw on TV that a witness was murdered by MS13. All part of the new bail reform which coincides with the issues CBP and ICE are having. Sad state - literally. Spent Super Bowl with someone that is a Bronx or Brooklyn Assistant DA. And she said the public doesn’t see have the mess that has been created by sanctuary city laws and the new bail reform laws.
