Hi everyone - We're thrilled to be getting close to our first trip to the BVIs. With a lot of information gathered on this site we've drafted our itinerary and key highlights. We understand we need to have a loose itinerary but are a little conflicted because our crew wants to do a few activities that likely require reservations (e.g., Anagada tour, diving, kite surfing, beach dinner, etc.). Historically we’re very detailed trip planners and hate wasting valuable vacation time fumbling around with what to do next, so we’re trying our best to keep this loose and get on island time.

Can you have a look and let me know your thoughts on the itinerary?

I'm guessing Cane Garden Beach/Bay is an error on your day at Leverick - it's on Tortola and the far side at that.

If you want to dive from Cooper (I'm guessing the Rhone - it's definitely worth 2 tanks!) I would do Cooper your first night and Norman at the end of the trip. That way your gear is dry and you've had some extra surface interval so a flight the following day isn't a concern.

Bitter End and Saba aren't close to being open again - when is your trip? You might want to plan for Oil Nut Bay if you don't want to stay a second night at Leverick. If you want to dive from Leverick or ONB, The Dogs have some nice sites.

Be sure to book a car/scooter/Moke for your day at Anegada as soon as you can. It's a risk to hope they are available the morning you want one. I suggest an electric Moke!

I would only overnight one night at Anegada. You can then spend a evening in Cane Garden bay and have more time at Jost. If you rent a Moke you can easily snorkle at FOB or Loblolly bay and have lunch at Cow Wreck. You can’t over night at Jost, hit Sandy Isle in the morning and make it to Cooper without it being a long day. No way could you dive.

Understood re: cooper diving the wreck on the front end vs. back end with flying. Would we still have time to hit snorkeling the indians and caves on the back end? that's my only concern w/that route.

1 vs 2 nights at Anegada, I have us for 2 assuming we won't have time to get elsewhere if we do a Sherwin/Kelly tour the morning of Day 2. If we can make a half day tour + cow beach / FOB all in a day we'll do it - that just seems like a lot. By what time should we be on our way from Anegada Day 2 in order to make it elsewhere?

Also, are we spending too much time at norman or should we skip this and spend more time at leverick, jost and anegada?

Thanks again for all your help!

For Kitesurfing, look up Tommy Gaunt Kitesurfing School. They're located at Anegada Beach Club.

Bjack, our trips will overlap. If you stick close to your itinerary, we’ll meet a scrub, leverick, Anegada, and Jost. We won’t be doing any diving, most likely, but will get plenty of use out of the SUPs. Consider a massage at Leverick, or perhaps at Jost. I haven’t been able to match schedules with the floating spa in White Bay, but we got pretty good massages at leverick.

I always enjoy lobster and ambience at Potters, and wouldn’t miss partying there in the evening. You can easily snorkel at FOB and still spent a great afternoon at cow wreck.

Indians and/or Caves is a quick snorkeling spot. Leaving from Jost in the morning you'd definitely have time for both on the way to Norman. It's the same if you leave from Cane Garden Bay if you add in it after trimming Anegada down to one night.

We like to spend 2 nights at Anegada with this itinerary -
Overnight at Leverick or Oil Nut Bay
Prep boat for departure early in the morning
Rendezvous with Sunchaser Scuba for 2 tanks at the Dogs.
Cast off immediately when you get back from diving and sail to Anegada. It will be about 1 pm.
Arrive Anegada between 4-5 pm. You'll likely need to anchor if you don't have a Boaty Ball reserved - but with a paid captain, anchoring should be no problem at Anegada as we've even done it as beginner sailors.
Dinner on the boat.
Next morning - full day at Anegada - rent a Moke, snorkel Loblolly, end at Cow Wreck.
Dinner at Wonky Dog.
Early cast off for Jost the next day.

Is Willie T on your Norman list?

Is White Bay (Soggy, Hendos etc.) Jost on your list?

I like Anegada for 2...Kelly (who we use)/Sherwin 1 day followed by dinner that night and then FOB & Cow Wreck for Day 2.

Also when you get to Monkey Point send 1 person in the water to see if the snorkeling is any good.

Remember you are herding cats...so lots of moving parts = more frustration

again IMHO

Just my two cents about Anegada. I know the Mokes are cool. But going from FOB to ABC or Cow Wreck you cannot drive the back route with a Moke. That is why we always get our "jeep" from Dean Wheatley (284-544-3703). I absolutely love the drive from FOB to ABC via the north road. And it is a little bit of a time saver versus staying on the paved road all the way around.

Go Irish!!

IF you do switch your first and last day and stay at Norman, you can cure your Willy T hang-over with an early morning snorkel at the Indians. The light will not be as good but the fish will be active and a real good chance you will get a ball. You can then motor/sail to the dock and have the boat returned in time. That is what we did on our last trip and it was a great way to end the sail!

Also Regarding leverick Bay, stay on the slip and enjoy the restaurant for dinner unless you are looking for some solitude and a dinner on the boat. There is nothing at Saba and BEYC to go to at this point.

Cane Garden Bay is one of our favorite spots, but if you you stay there for a night instead of Anegada you may want to check to see if there is a cruise ship in port that day (in Feb probably a good chance!).... Having said that by the time you get there from sailing from Anegada and stopping at monkey point or sandy Cay for a snorkel it will be mid afternoon and the cruise ship passengers will be leaving soon anyway.....so may not be a big deal.

Good luck and enjoy! planning is half the fun!

Thank you all for your input. We have updated our itinerary, largely based on all the great input from people here on the board. We leave Friday and look forward to a great week. Attached is our updated plan. Any final thoughts are greatly appreciated!

Thanks again!

Looks like fun! IMHO too much packed into Feb 19. I might leave out Monkey Point. Also, not much at Marina Cay right now. Have fun!!!

Thanks! We’re eying Marina Cay to hit snorkeling at Diamond Reef. Is that bad or not worth it right now?

Haven't been since last May, but the Dogs make for a great snorkel and they're on the way to North Sound. There are NPS moorings you can use.

Would definitely reccomend Sherwin for your snorkel trip on Anegada. We saw him last month and he told us that the conch has been over harvested on Anegada so he can’t catch fresh conch for ceviche. But he will take you to some awesome snorkeling spots, see the conch mounds and hopefully the flamingos if they’re out. He’s really knowledgeable about the history of the island. One of our crew spent about an hour + talking to him one night after drinks at Wonky. He’s a really intelligent guy with a big heart.

If you can’t get into Sugarmill or want a little more relaxed dining we ate at Tramonti their casual waterfront place. It’s italian food and delicious. I’ve never seen a bigger portion of chicken Parmesan before!

A couple people now have recommended to keep it easier on CGB so we'll probably skip trekking down to the Sugar Mills.

Re: Monkey Point - understood and thanks for the tip. we might not have time for this en route to the CGB or Diamond Cay from Anegada but we'll see.

I've heard both Sherwin and Kelly are good and we're definitely planning to do a tour. It might come down to availability and ease of booking / communications.

Thanks again!
