Jet Blue cancelled our April 3 flight from SXM to the U.S. without notifying us by email or any other way. Jet Blue isn't sending any jets down to SXM to help anyone get home.
St. Maarten is a wonderful place to be, and we have no problems here, but the travel situation isn't getting better. We decided to leave -- we'll be on tomorrow's Delta flight to Atlanta.
This morning, swimming at Mullet Bay beach, we saw a perfect rainbow -- as we often do -- as well as all the usual parrotfish, blue tangs, soapfish, yellowtail snappers, glasseye snappers, Spanish hogfish, stingrays, and all our usual friends. Sad to go.

Jet Blue's handling of this entire situation has been deplorable, in my opinion. They have shown ZERO commitment to the destination. Zero.
Safe travels.
Did you take a picture of that rainbow? Would love to see it!!

I think people should remember that in the future, when they're talking about how Jet Blue is such a great airline and their favorite airline to SXM...

Great. More wrong rumors................ You do know that the U.S.A is almost under martial law? All medical students are being called up to serve in the US of A in a stae of emergency. If you have not left SXM yet I would rethink your travel plans. Help the people of SXM...

You are entitled to your opinion. My opinion is that Jet Blue needs to step up. Not bashing, just facts.

No, I am not any kind of an expert about running an airline. All I know is that other airlines have allowed people to book ONLINE, which is what you could have tried to do. Jet Blue has done absolutely NOTHING to attempt to help their customers to get back home.
And as far as helping people, TTOL is providing information to those in need of information.

Again, book ONLINE. That's the only way to do it right now from SXM.

My wife was told she could NOT book on United at the (ticket) counter in DAY. Toll free # or internet were only options. I was finally able to book both United and Delta online. Nothing going with AA and I tried JetBlue online as well and nothing.

I did NOT get in touch with any airline via a phone, it was myself using their websites or my wife talking to an agent in person which produced zero results.

All the airlines suck right now. They’re dealing with uncharted waters as are we all. All anyone can do is just keep trying all the options until you achieve the success you’re looking for.
And re the JB, AA, DTA debate of which is better and which is worse, give it a rest everyone, please.
We have had our issues, minimal as most have been with AA over the years and usually they include their ever-changing flight schedules; and we’ve had our issues with JB, our last flight home from SXM last November as a case in point; none with Delta but in fairness, I think I’ve only flown them once when going to Atlanta. And in all honesty, when my issues with AA and JB were dealt with the people I was dealing with were always pleasant and helpful and the situations were resolved in a way that I was satisfied. I’m looking at an AA cancellation for April but I’m giving it a while since I’m not due to fly out soon.
They’re all dealing with this crisis, too, as best they can and really, if I was placing blame with anyone, I’d place it with the island government for not having been in contact with all the airlines in a timely fashion to allow them the opportunity to develop a better game plan rather than dropping the bomb on them the way they seemingly did.
Respectfully,
pat

Correct. The airlines probably do have a local contact number in SXM as I had to get person out after a death in the family a few years and I know I found one for Delta. Here are some SXM numbers I found for JetBlue. Not sure if they work or not. Phone: +1 (721) 546-7797, +1 (721) 546-7663, +1 (721) 546-7664 LINK

The Toll Free Numbers don’t work on island for me as well which is why I used the old method of going thru a travel agent in the states. Instead of spending hours on the phone on hold or racing back and forth to the airport, I made a call to my old agent who literally contacted Delta airlines on Sunday Morning using their contacts, switched 2 passenger tickets originally for 4/12 SXM to JFK and changed them for that same day 3/15 with no fee or extra charges and placed me on the same flight with them. It literally took 15 min with zero hassle and we took off at 1:30pm and arrived at JFK on time. I had no intentions of leaving sxm until end of April but once we saw what was happening in the states and then the flight restrictions started for the island on Tuesday, we knew to get off island. Will head back to SXM when things calm down!! Using a good travel agent that has direct contact with the airlines is a sure way to get your seats and off island without the personal hassle!

Pat--you are correct in much of what you said. But all airlines do not suck. They are overwhelmed with a situation they did not create. You think they are dealing with just St. Maarten? This is happening all over the world. I'm glad I am not in charge of running an airline right now because there is no way to satisfy most folks. I understand the frustration but to blame airlines for this is unfair. They are probably doing the best they can while worrying about how they are going to protect and pay their employees with so few planes being allowed to fly and almost no paying passengers. This is almost exactly what I wanted to say. Try to maintain some perspective here. Airlines are dealing with a global emergency, it's gonna require more than usual patience.
