Just a follow up to my question (thanks for the nice replies) a few weeks back, we did visit wreck beach last week and it was an interesting experience. The beach is somewhat small, but very beautiful. The crowd is very eclectic, well to do's, to new agers, to very hippie...all very nice and friendly. Did not see any drug use, but there were vendors discreetly selling beer and frozen mixed drinks as the beach is well patrolled. There are vendors selling food, soft drinks/water, umbrella's and clothing/wraps...Nude use was about 75% (about 1/2 were single males) and it got very crowded by early afternoon....so get there early on nice days the parking fills up fast...we were there from 11-2 and was still filling up when we left...speaking of leaving...the stairs are brutal going up, even if you in good shape (which we are)...downside to the experience, cold water swimming, small size and stairs...but would recommend a visit if you're in Vancouver...

Thanks for posting your observations. Our trip there was about 7 years ago so some things must have changed...drugs then were sold openly and one guy was going around like a carnival barker trying to sell his stuff. Never did see a police patrol but the ambiance still sounds the same...oh yeah, and those bloody stairs!
We left about the middle of the afternoon and later found out the party was just getting started.
