Hello all

We are headed down the last of Oct-first of Nov for our annual excursion. On previous sailing charters, we have always enjoyed an overnight in Maho Bay, and delighted in a breakfast at Maho Bay Camps....alas those days are gone.

Is there a 'sail up' restaurant (particularly a breakfast place) on St John? Not really excited about mooring outside Cruz Bay and taking the dink in there, so other STJ options appreciated.

Thanks

You can have breakfast at Caneel, not cheap, but very good. The only place I would call "sail up" is a marina, otherwise your going to "dinghy up", like Maho.

How about anchoring in Coral Bay, use the dinghy dock behind Skinny Legs and walk over to the Donkey Diner? Kick Azzz food!

With Maho gone it is going to be difficult. Cinnamon Bay has a restaurant. You can hike from Leinster to Coral Bay or anchor in muddy Coral Bay for Donkey Diner. Otherwise it is Cruz Bay or Great Cruz (Westin).

Have never been to south side of STJ. Trying to find out about anchor in Coral Bay. Can you anchor by the dink dock?

Donkey Diner is closed and for sale.
The anchoring options in Coral Bay are not 'close to the dinghy dock'

Hmm. That is going to make breakfast after 8 Tuff Miles problematic.

Caneel opens back up November 1. We like the breakfast buffet. For lunch or early dinner, the sushi is fantastic and the portions are quite large.

Thanks

We anchored in Coral Bay last year....the number of permanent boats makes anchoring out of the waves challenging

It was not an unpleasant night, but it was light wind and wave...

I would call Caneel before planning on dinking in. They used to tell folks to dinghy to Cruz Bay and take a taxi! Maybe the new management has a different attitude.

Cheers, RickG

Was there for lunch in May. Picked up a mooring and took dinghy in to their dock with no problem. They do insist on a stern anchor, though.

An earlier article about it here - I have seen no follow up news since they closed.

Oh well...bottom line is that what make StJohn appealing (nature, beauty, not much established business outside Cruz Bay) also makes it challenging. We may go to Red Hook for the morning

See you all in a few weeks !

cap: The other idea is to fix breakfast on your boat and enjoy the quiet beauty around you! We tend not to cook, but to have yogurt, cold cereal, fruit, etc. But I do require hot water for coffee in my Melita!!

The family that owned the land sold it. A private, very private individual bought the whole property.
