While at the grocery today, I saw the usual slew of carts left in the handicapped parking area by the people using that area. There is a cart corral just 3 spaces away at the farthest point so it is not like they have to go far. Used gloves in the parking lot, including a ziploc bag full of used gloves and people wearing filthy dirty gloves of all sorts in the store.

But, what really got me was what one of the "special needs" employees was having to do. I shop at Kroger and they have been VERY GOOD with sanitizing the carts, having them staged and when an attendant is not there, they have a spray bottle and paper towels, along with a trash can, for people to clean their cart. Kroger hires a lot of "special needs" kids and adults as there is a school in the area and they know they will show up for work and are dependable. They also hire a lot of retirees, as they know they will show up and do a good job. They often have older (than me) retirees working the carts with the special needs kids.

This 33 year kid (who I was introduced to by my sister who knew him from her days of driving his bus) was having to work extra hard to clean the handles of several carts. The problem was some inconsiderate customers had used DUCT TAPE to cover the handles so they would not touch them, even though the handles are cleaned or there is cleaner available. The kid had to remove the duct tape and then try to get the sticky residue off so the cart was usable for the next customer. VERY SAD and VERY INCONSIDERATE of these people to do this.

This kid was taking it all in stride and not complaining, but he said it has been going on for some time now with people using duct tape.

While this situation has brought out a lot of good in a lot of people, I have also witnessed a new level on inconsideration and DUMB acts by a lot of people, including this. It would not at all surprise me if the same inconsiderate people who can not be bothered to put the carts in a secure corral are the same ones duct taping the handles of the carts.

I have to say that I have seen so many people doing such really STUPID things recently and wonder where their mind is. Over the weekend, I saw a WHOLE FAMILY, mother, father, 3 kids ALL at the grocery store, none of which wearing a mask, walking around in the store, blocking the aisles in many cases, and many other COUPLES at the grocery store, one shopping, one standing around in the ROAD, taking up space, no one wearing masks, doing other stupid stuff. People are morons.

Yep, a whole new level of stupid. Hey, if you are not working, let's ALL go to the grocery! The neighbor was at Menard's today (mask required by Menard's) and she said it looked like holiday shopping. Spend the stimulus and extra unemployment $$$! and take the entire family.

When my wife taught elementary school she knew that some of these stupid students she had would just grow up to be stupid adults. Sometimes you just can't correct stupid.

That is because the stupids are out and the considerate intelligent people are still staying put or only going out to do a short shop.

Carol,

The “recommendation” here is to limit the number of shoppers to one. Last week I saw a Mom and Dad and three kids entering the grocery store ahead of me, and to make it even worse they paid no attention to the arrows and were walking abreast of each other except for the one child in the wagon.. In honesty, if I need to shop I usually take DH with me reason being I can’t reach a lot of the things on the upper shelves.

Respectfully,

pat

Pat--I am similarly 'vertically challenged', but I seem to always find a taller person about in that situation! smile To me, it's just annoying right now with extra people around, who in many cases seem not interested in the shopping at all, they are just standing around in the road.. No reason to subject everyone in the household to the possibility of catching something..

If I'm just getting a few things I will not hesitate to impose upon someone who is less 'height challenged' than I but for a full grocery shopping that's a lot of imposing since it seems the items I am most frequently looking for are both heavy and on the highest shelf. But when my list is long I will often send DH in pursuit of the high items while I and the cart collect the easier items.

What I'm still having a hard time with is people not understanding the arrows on the floor!

My wife had the same experience. A woman, staring at the arrows, looked at her and said "this is so confusing".

So I'm in Publix going down the aisle the correct way. Coming towards me is a woman, no mask, pushing her cart the wrong way. Before I could say a word she said "I know I'm going the wrong way so I'll just walk backward" which she DID!! And she probably votes! Yikes.
