Now that we have the charter company sorted, I would be grateful for any recommendations on favorite car rental places.

I would potentially only need the car from airport to dock and to do a few provisioning runs, maybe pick up another couple from the airport as well.

If it looks like I can get all the supplies to the boat via provisioning companies then maybe we'll do that....currently just exploring options.

If you contact AVIS car rental -- ask if they will have the office at the seaplane terminal open -- if so, then you can walk back from dropping off the car to the CYOA marina if that was your charter base choice.
Amalie car rental may be able to pick up the rental car too -- you can check there.

Highly recommend Paradise Rental (all new jeeps). They'll meet you at baggage claim and if you're chartering from CYOA, you can leave the car at the CYOA base when you're finished and they will pick it up.

If you are chartering from us at CYOA you would be just as well off with our private cabs and ordering provisions. Moe's on the waterfront will let you order in advance and send your taxi to pick up the food.

Thanks to all - exactly the information I was/am looking for.

CaptainJay - we are chartering with you all at CYOA....I certainly like the idea of having private cabs and ordering provisions ahead of time and have done this on previous trips on other islands....however, I have also rented a car elsewhere and enjoy the freedom and mobility that provides too - and in my experience it's considerably cheaper once you exceed a cab ride or 2...rentals are especially useful for the random items - unexpected trip to pharmacy or something like that....Probably most selfishly though, if there is time, I want to check out Rock City Brewing Company (closes at 8 pm) and the parking lot bar - Duffy's Love Shack - which sounds awesome and has been recommended by TTOLers.

Looking forward to a new chartering experience with your outfit early next year!

St. Thomas has a pretty decent Dollar Bus system. Kind of adding adventure to your travels. We’ve taken to Red Hook many times and then don’t worry about having the Duffy effect on the way back to CYOA

With a rental car you can also shop at CostUless , Plaza extra and Pueblo all of which would be less expensive than Moes Market [which essentially caters to upscale patrons and the prices reflect that].

We plan to buy our essentials at Pueblo - walk down, taxi back - and maybe do some specialty items at Moe’s after much discussion amongst the three of us as to what would be most cost and time effective.

Pueblo has a lot of items, but their meat is a challenge. Starting at Pueblo and finishing at Moe's is a good approach. One option is what we do, dinghy to Crown Bay and walk to Crown Bay. It's a short shopping cart walk to Crown Bay where you can grab a dock cart.

Cheers, RickG

We had the cab from the airport drop a couple of folks off at Pueblo on the way to CYOA.... sent the cab back to pick them up once we got the call.
