Seaborne also wants to suspend service to San Juan. This could get interesting and expensive.

I read an article last month that Silver wrote congress for bailout cash because they were in big trouble.

When I flew from SJU to EIS in February, it was on a Seaborne Saab 340 but the ticket said operated by Silver Airways. If Seaborne stops SJU, does that mean it could still operate through Silver?

We are planning our trip for Feb 2021 and thought about buying tickets now to support the airlines if they were refundable. My issues is what happens if they go under? It's not looking great overall.

My sailing trip St Lucia to Grenada this month was cancelled by Moorings and my flights cancelled (I waited for American to cancel and then ask for cash refund).

Our next big trip is Maui in October. Normally I would be purchasing the tickets about now but I am fearful the airlines will have serious issues between now and October, so I am playing another waiting game. The first class seats I have my eye on have gone up in price since I started tracking them last month, so waiting is costing cash but I just can't purchase yet and possibly lose the entire amount.

We open up where I live this Tuesday. Retail with limited customers inside buildings; dining in restaurants six feet apart; but no salons or gyms yet. I am really hoping there is a huge pent up demand ready to spend and it rolls across all sectors.

I don’t think you will have airline issues in Oct. All the major airlines have liquidity through the end of the year at least. The bigger issue may be the state of Hawaii and if they have lifted their 14 day quarantine rule.

Too true - a California couple was arrested for violating the quarantine in Hawaii!

I'm curious about your trip plans to Grenada. We had planned to charter out of Martinique in late June (sailing south) but those plans were recently cancelled. However in the past few days, I've noticed that Grenada has begun to ease restrictions and I'm considering rebooking another trip for mid July in Grenada sailing the Grenadines. That stands to reason to me since so many live aboard cruisers need to get south (esp. Grenada) in the coming weeks for insurance purposes.

Of course, trying to find information about those areas is more challenging (what's open, etc.). The TTOL board (Southern Caribbean) is virtually silent all the time. I'm monitoring noonsite, cruisers forum page, and a Grenada yachting facebook page for up to date information and hoping to make a decision on a possible trip my early June. I'd be curious if you had any sources of solid information relevant to cruising that area.

Thanks.

BreckSailor,

You may also wish to check if you will be able to get into St. Vincent and the Grenadines without quarantine issues - as well as back into Grenada from there. Otherwise you will be limited to Grenada and Carriacou. We had a St. Vincent start/stop booked for late June which we cancelled a few weeks ago.

Roger that - i'm monitoring SVG and Grenada status daily for exactly that. Being limited to Grenada & Carricacou is not an option for what would be a 10 - 14 day charter. Thanks for the heads up. At least one person involved locally with charter industry is highly confident that it will be fully open by then...certainly an evolving situation.

(PS: to others - sorry to tangent this thread but I'm looking for any information and saw the earlier post...)

Silver bought Seaborne several months ago so they are the same now.

I wish I could help but it was to be my first sail in the Southern Caribbean. We were depending on our hired captain to know the details. We have sailed with this wonderful captain three times in the BVI and since he is a "Vincey" (born in St Vincent) he knows the SC very well.

I talked to Silver Airways/Seabourne today and she said they had no plans to drop San Juan, "it was all just a rumor" she said. Don't know if she would have told me if they were planning dropping San Juan but I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and my credit

Phil--According to the original story, Seabourne has already gotten approval from the government to stop service to SJU..

Hey Carol, yea I did see that, when I talked to the customer service person, she put me on hold and talked to the manager. When she came back, she said that was not true and was just a rumor.
She asked where I getting this info and seemed like she was writing it down. Guess we will see soon. I started the process to get my credit back as a refund.

Honestly, I would NEVER believe a customer service person, versus a published story. But that may be just me.

Silver had applied to service Presque Isle Airport in Maine. Silver just recently withdrew that application, even though the route ( to BOS) was heavily funded by the Federal Government.
