After reading some awful reviews about Windward, BW Carib and more, I think we are between Frenchman's Reef, Sugar Bay or Secret Harbor for one night. When I read about Windward, BW, and more having bugs, mold, etc, not really into starting my vacation that way.
So, any advice from anyone who has stayed at any of these recently would be great! thx!

I stay at Best Western Emerald Beach often and have never had a problem. I have also stayed at Island Beachcomber (next door) a few times and it's ok...less $ but not quite as nice...fine for a night or 2...convenient to airport, downtown & ferry. If I'm coming in late it's just right there by the airport and I can relax sooner. If I'm on my way back to Florida I can relax longer than I would be able to at a hotel farther away from the airport. I always get a late checkout and leave 2 hours before my flight.

I have never stayed at any of these but lived in STT for five years. If it is just one night before heading to BVI I would not want to deal with the longer travel time and taxi expense to get out to any of you three choices. Depending on time of day, I have seen it take 40 minutes to just get from one end of town to the other. I would look at BW Em Beach, Beachcomber or Windward and have heard good things about all three recently from customers who have stayed there. Just my two cents.

I agree, that's a long way to travel, just for one night. And if the OP is looking at Trip Advisor, there seem to be a large number of folks on there with axes to grind!

We will be arriving in the afternoon and have the day on STT before heading over to STJ the next day. Since we can't check in until 3 we have time to do some swimming, relaxing, etc. We are renting a jeep on STT because we will be there most of the day, so the drive isn't an issue. Plan on getting some provisions before heading over.
Bugs won't bother me, I just don't want to make them move over so I can get in bed!

Last time we stayed at Frenchmans reef there was a $30 per person or per room resort fee. That was in May of 2012. Just an fyi.

Stay at BW Emerald. We've stayed there twice and it's beautiful. I am very picky about cleanliness and have to say, I always leave that place impressed. The pool is nice for a dip but the beach is great! Being close to the airport never bothered us.
We love the beach bar, great painkillers. And the breakfast was served by sweet women who just want to please.
Every Carribean hotel may have a few bugs but I never saw one. We like the building directly behind the office so we can people watch from the balcony (only 2 floors).

I agree with Lcrich.

It not really worth a hundred extra bucks of cab rides to the east end for a nights stay.

Twanger, the OP says they are renting a jeep then ferrying over to STJ, so that changes the equation a bit, I think.
