They need to just admit, they do NOT want tourists. Pretty simple.

I agree... We never had wifi at the villa and only brought one phone with limited data use for emergencies.
Honestly this is such a big game changer for me. I remember back in the day staying at Club Orient in a chalet with No TV, No phone (the front desk had a phone for emergencies), No microwave! No wifi etc. I am so happy to have those memories.

Agreed. Just say you don't want US tourists to come and be done with it.

Honestly, their requirements are no different than most countries for test requirements. I don't feel they are targeting.

As far as I know, no one else is requiring everyone to send an email EVERY DAY for 14 days, with their temperature. That is ridiculous.

In today's world with covid-19, If it makes the leadership on the island feel better, I guess I don't see it being a big deal.

I guess I do think it's a big deal. If you are going on vacation and you have to check in every day with big brother by EMAIL, which many people don't even have on island, to say that you are Covid free, I choose to not go.

Bermuda is now requiring visitors to take their own temperatures twice per day and check in through an on-line portal. You have to be tested at the airport on arrival and self isolate until test results come in. You have to re-test on day 4, day 7 and day 14.

And who is paying for those extra tests?

Visitors to Bermuda must fill in an authorization form online before arriving and pay $75.00 to do so. The $75.00 covers the cost of Covid testing while on the island.

I still have a choice, to go or not to go. I am happy where I am right now. There is no way I am going to put myself in a situation that changes everyday! There is no clear message and life can throw a lot of challenges at you but why would I add this to my struggles. Travel to St. Maarten is the last thing on my bucket list at the moment.

I can't really say that I am happy where I am right now, but right now, there is no way I would book a trip to SXM, as it is impossible to know what will be required next. I just hope that things will be somewhat normal by next summer.

They have been doing this the whole time. We have received an email every morning and have to check our temperature and answer if we have any symptoms. It takes about 10 seconds to complete, once you check your temperature. It's not a burden at all. However, I'm not sure what you do if you don't have access to email.

Huh. I certainly don't remember seeing that requirement before. But as you said, what happens if you don't have email?

Most restaurants have free wifi that you can use to check in and it only takes a few seconds.

I think almost everyone these days has a smart phone and there is plenty of free wifi around. Worst case, I'm sure your favorite waiter or waitress would let you use their phone to login to your email. Honestly, this part is not that burdensome at all. smile

I am not going to drive from my villa to Philipsburg and order a drink at Greenhouse so I can use their wifi to send my temperature to some SXM Gov. Website. Geez!

Don't worry, by the time you finally arrive on the island, the Greenhouse will probably be out of business.

" I'm sure your favorite waiter or waitress would let you use their phone to login to your email"
Not a good idea. Once you log into another private phone that password most likely be in there for good and susceptible for hacking.

That's a bit of a stretch Scuba. You can logout and not save the password plus I doubt most waiters/waitresses are in the business of hijacking your email and almost everyone has their own smart phone. I'm just saying that of all the restrictions, this one really is the least burdensome and fairly easy to work around.

To me, that might be the case, if it were ONE time, but every day for fourteen days?? What happens if you're so happy to be on vacation, that you actually don't check your email for a couple of days and forget?? Will they send the gestapo to come get you? I really doubt it, but it's something else to stress over. Going on vacation should not be this much work. I'll just stay home, thanks.

Correct. "Vacation" would be definitely be more stressful than staying at home

Agreed. We are in a couple of different high risk categories anyway, and at least if we get sick at home, we don't have to worry about trying to get back home, and medical care in the meantime. Once there is a vaccine available, hopefully a lot of things will change.

Count me in as one who does NOT have a smartphone nor do I want to take a laptop out to dinner with me.

Don't most resorts and/or villas have wifi? Email is a necessity for us, so that we can stay available for our elderly (not that we're not also elderly) parents.

We just spent 8 nights on sxm and the daily health check email issues to me is just more lip service and another pacifier for locals mostly to try to show some sort of government control. The health check took me 30 seconds no big deal and my husband never sent his back. Much to do About nothing, nobody gonna check or come pull us out of the pool. Maybe the government employees don’t care about tourists since they have a job for now but for sure the businesses hotels restaurants car rentals all are desperate and happy to see tourists again. If you look at it as a hassle then it’s going to be a hassle but to us it was just one more minor thing , no different than getting used to TSA , wearing masks or anything else these days. We love St Martin this time. No traffic the island is very green the beaches were pristine and flight not that crowded. We all are covid19 tested so they are more safe from us then us from them. Go help them!

Still hoping to go early November. Without the EUA restriction, test results and turnaround time shouldn’t be an issue here in WNY. I know that doesn’t seem to be true in all regions of the USA, unfortunately. Anyway, the requirements by the SXM Government are fine. Even a daily email wouldn’t have been an issue in any places I’ve stayed on the island. Plus I usually have a smartphone with travel pass on it for such things. The biggest concern for me is the status of the border and businesses not being open or their use restricted. Was going to book airfare last week but in more of a wait and see mode now. Takeout only and border controls would make me look elsewhere. We’ll see how it goes. Hope SXM can get through this.
