FRENCH SIDE COVID PRESS RELEASE
[Covid 19 - Press release]
Introduction of the compulsory mask in the most frequented areas of Saint-Martin
The health situation on the island of Saint-Martin remains worrying with as of September 14, 117 active cases and 21 people hospitalized, including 18 at the Louis Constant Fleming Hospital. The levels of incidence rates (number of positive people per 100,000 inhabitants per week) and positivity (number of positive people compared to the number of tests performed) remain above the alert thresholds.
Faced with these data, the Prefecture of Saint-Barthélemy and Saint-Martin has decided to establish by decree the wearing of the compulsory mask from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. in areas frequented by a large public, in particular drinking establishments, the surroundings of schools and shops, for a period of one month from Friday, September 18.
Violators are subject to a fine of 135 euros.
During the confinement, the Prefecture, Initiative Saint-Martin Active and the Collectivity carried out the project of manufacturing solidarity masks by 52 seamstresses. 24,500 masks have already been distributed to the general public and to all schools, administrations, businesses, businesses and associations. Stocks remain available.
To ensure everyone's protection, reusable masks can be picked up by those wishing to do so at the Prefecture reception from September 18 during opening hours to the public.

So, the virus does not spread between the hours of 2:00am and 7:00am?

How do I wear a mask in a drinking establishment and sip my martini?

Either you're sleeping or there are so few people out you can socially distance?

There was a time when I would have said that Nothing good happens after 2AM. As time passed, I changed to Nothing good happens after Midnight. These days, I'm pretty sure that Nohing good happens after 10PM.

You know, back in the old days, we used to stay on the French side, go to Grand Case and have a big dinner every night, then go to the Dutch side for casinos, head back through Marigot at 1-2 AM. We routinely would get stuck behind the garbage truck in the middle of Marigot and thought nothing of it, just a few minutes' delay to get home. These days, that would scare the cr*p out of me. But then, I'm old.. duh

Carol,

Thanks for the laugh, been behind the garbage collection in Marigot several nights returning after dinner.
Keeping eye out for anyone suspicious.

Speaking of garbage trucks. Last year on the way up to Anse Marcel we had a garbage truck comming down the road. We were within a fraction of an inch of making contact and I was on the farthest edge of the cliff side. That truck wasn't giving up any space and was partially on my side of the road. Talk about nearly soiling my shorts. yikes
