I'm going with Fred and saying it looks like somewhere on the ICW. However, I've done most of it and don't recognise that cross. So I'm going to guess at a city that I missed... Wilmington.

The “Oldest City” is correct! The Cross is seen as you enter St Augustine from the Atlantic
The fort to the south and Camachee Cove marina to the north of the cross are popular stops for cruisers and those transiting the ditch. Keep it between the markers, good depth, but shifting bottom

Fran is up

Can't believe that! I've entered St Augustine from the Atlantic and didn't see that cross. Mind you I was keeping a very close eye on the waves, the nav aids and the depth sounder at the time. Didn't enjoy that entry at all.

I just got home from work, will try to get something put up but if someone else has a photo ready please go ahead and post.

Edit,

I don't have a photo sharing site that I use so not sure I can post a photo anyway. Carol, how about you post another photo.

Fran-- Here is a link to the FAQ, which tells you how to create a photo gallery.

Link

Or, you can just use the ATTACHMENT MANAGER to directly upload a picture to a thread. Just hit REPLY as normal and click on USE FULL EDITOR. That bring up up a screen which will show ATTACHMENT MANAGER just below where you would normally type your note. Click to open the Attachment Manager. Hit on Select a File to Attach and VOILA! Just upload your picture!

Mike, I though you might have got it. Entry is known as tricky, especially in bad weather or at night.

https://www.waterwayguide.com/nav-alert/4-5600/fl-inlet-caution-st-augustine
Navigation: From the sea buoy, proceed slightly south of east towards the inlet, paying close attention to the markers. You will see a tall cross ahead on shore providing an approximate range to the inlet, which will help you to orient yourself.

I don't have a photo ready to post right now. If someone wants to post a new photo, go ahead, and then maybe Fred can figure out how to post a picture...

Not Manchester or France - but the former is closer.

Not Holland or River Shannon. To fall back on one of Tom's quizzes re :countries where we drive on the left, this place isn't Ireland, N. Ireland, Wales, or England. It's another country.

Yes Ellen, now where? It even has it's own song (although probably not on the top ten list or even top 10,000 list)

If it's the place I'm thinking of, it has a connection to optical data transmission.

I'll say no more.

Dan cheers

If it is not Caledonian then I think it must be the Crinan Canal.

Ahhh... that was very easy to identify for anyone who has gone up and over instead of through! I'm not at my computer now and won't be able to post a new picture for a couple of hours so I won't post my guess until I am in a position to put up the next one.

I got tired of the office, so went home and now have one monitor with private stuff including this browser session and another monitor with work stuff that pays for the private stuff smile

I believe that the picture was taken at the St. Gotthard pass in Switzerland. I was only there once, in summer, on my motorcycle but those serpentine roads were either a biker's paradise or nightmare; I can't recall which...

So I guessed wrong about which canal it was. Solitons, which can be used in optical communcation (link here), were first described after being observed in the Union Canal.

Sorry for the nerdy diversion. smile

Dan, I was curious about the link between a canal and optical communication. Thanks for the explanation.

That's correct Arnd. I'm off to Spain shortly so I thought I'd post one that I was pretty confident someone would get quickly.

Just after I put the camera away 6 convertible Lamborghini Murcielago's turned up all with the tops down. Couldn't get the camera back out before they disappeared down the hill.

Even at the height of summer the snow was like this...

Um, that is not fair at all! How did you get that? William & Mary is my Alma Mater and I visited recently and took quite a few picture of my old campus (including fraternity building) and in Colonial Williamsburg as well and had a series of pictures lined up to post. Even though I spent many a weekend playing around in the "sunken gardens" shown on the image, I'm not sure I would have guessed the location that quickly.

First would have been the pillory, then the carriage which I think would have given it away.
