We are on our way to SXM on Saturday. Took our nasal covid test at the drive trough window of a CVS on Monday and received the results this morning. Beth also took the mail in saliva test. Sent the test back on Monday and got the results on Wednesday. Beth used the saliva test for her health filing with SXM. We both received the pre-approval notifications within a couple of hours after filing.

Are you saying that Beth was pre-approved without submitting the covid nasal PCR test ?

Inquiring minds want to know....and...if you both took the required test why did one of you submit the test that is not approved...sounds a bit odd

We submitted the saliva test to see whether it would be accepted and it was. We had her nasal test as a backup if the saliva test was not accepted.

Makes perfect sense to me. From what I understand, the applications are distributed to people who are working from home, so your response may be different depending on whether or not you get a stickler or someone who's a little more lenient.

The saliva test is NOT acceptable under the printed rules. I would be prepared for the possibility that you will have to pay for another test on island, since that is what you submitted. I would not have taken that risk, if I were you.

Especially when you have the correct test result. Unless they are lax at the airport in checking the type of test taken you should need another test normally BUT you do have evidence of the correct test which should work

Edit: responded to Carol by mistake

Went through the health screening at SXM without any issues. The saliva test Beth had was a RT-PCR-based test. That is what the screener was focused on. Screening line was only about 5 minutes and immigration was about 15 minutes. We decided to try the saliva test because our kids and grandkids were coming down for Thanksgiving and our 10 year old grand daughter did not want to come if she had to have her "brain tickled" by the covid test.

After picking up our car from Lesley, we proceeded to Orient to drop off our luggage and change into Island friendly clothes.

We went down to Le String to meet some friends that live on the island for happy hour. Dinner was great appetizers. Le String has a new chef who has also been at Spiga and Piazza Pascal.

When we left (which was not too early) we found a gate closing off the road toward Orient Village. Had to turn around and go through Club O property.

Good to be back.
