For a bit the bvi suspended vaccination program when they reached 4000 + in order to save vaccine for second doses because the promised second traunch due this week was delayed. They now have assurance 12,000 doses are arriving on Mar. 17. A further 12,000 doses is said to be there on March 31. They are due 12,000 doses thru the Caribbean association. So if comes through this spring that is enough to vaccinate 21,000 residents over 18 yrs. I’d assume that will be enough for everyone that wants to take the vaccine. The other good news is that they will have additional private healthcare groups administering vaccine at more sites so it should move much faster. At one point the minister of health said they needed 70% of eligible population vaccinated for his definition of “herd immunity) . I cannot imagine with 21,000 members of the population of 30,000 including those under 18 vaccinated that they would continue the quarantine. Testing prior to travel should be sufficient as most travelers from the US will likely be vaccinated by May. That will allow the BVI to fully open with little risk of severe disease or death in the population. Tourism is like a coiled spring eager to travel. Quarantines are a deal breaker for the average tourist on a weeks charter or land stay. https://bviplatinum.com/news.php?articleId=32380

From your lips..we will be heading down Mid /late April with both of us vaccinated and are really hoping they drop some of the protocols by then. With folks coming in vaccinated and the local population mostly vaccinated it seems like a no brainer...especially as this will be low season and they can slowly prepare for high season this way..but...having owned CRC since 1989 I know how things can be.. Ditto..when you think what the government officials will do is clear cut down there you should be prepared for disappointment. I hope that with the population vaccinated to the extent everyone wishing to take it is vaccinated and a high percentage of travelers over 18 will have been vaccinated if tourism is important then they will drop the quarantine.
