Just returned from one of the BEST and most Fun we have had on island, without beach. Went with friends to Rendevous for the weekly ''Jazz" session which I never knew about before today. OMG, the talent is totally amazing. Today they had nine musicians, which included a lead singer, keyboard, percussion, both bass and lead guitar, Tenor Sax, Alto sax, and trombone. These musicians are each wonderful fantastic talented musicians, who all also sing. I really not sure, why this event doesn't get ''press'' here on TTOL, but to all that come visit, take Sunday afternoons away from the beach, and spend a most wonderful fun filled afternoon at Rendevous. Food wasn't bad either. A GREAT time for all ages.

Sounds like something we would enjoy. Thanks for sharing. Will check it out when we get to the island in 9 days.

Thanks for the report. What kind of food do they serve there?

Carol...menu was huge. looked like they had just about everything including a million different types of pizza. I had a chicken club sandwich which was very good. Most in our party had pizzzas...but saw a bunch of fish, burgers, steaks walking by us. smile

I agree that Sunday afternoon music at the Rendezvous Lounge is fun. You don't have to sit at the restaurant -- the event is outdoors, so you can enjoy the music sitting on a bench in the courtyard, or on the edge of the fountain, if you prefer, while kids run around playing. When live music is enjoyed outdoors, the Covid transmission risk is relatively low.

Since Porto Cupecoy stopped its tradition of free outdoor movies on Monday night, the Sunday afternoon music at Rendezvous has become the weekly event that gathers a crowd.

Ed,

Sometimes it's hard to enjoy new restaurants once you get your always go back to ones.
We try to go to a few new places each visit.
Last year on our last day we didn't feel like traveling to far, not necessary to fine dine and wife wanted tuna tat tar.
Since we had already been to Mario's and Alto in Puerto Cupecoy, we decided to try the Rendevous Lounge during their two for one happy hour and take advantage of their $20 three course dinner. Summer only.
Service was very cordial and while the food selection was not extremely gourmet, it was just what we were looking for.

I know we will be going back just for the tuna tar tar.

Appreciate your reports as we count down from 5 months to go.
Reminder to leave the sand.
I also understand how easy it is to enjoy staying at RI for the day and not leave until dinner time.
Been there, done that, just need to go out to bring home lunch or fresh pastries.

Ed, You are right on the money but be careful when it comes to the first Sunday in the month because many in the band also play at Rembrant's. The band starts later at Rembrant's (5:00)but some of them may chose not to do both. Rembrant's is also a paid gig. The horn section also jams at the Pub on Monday nights at 7. Beats the Red Piano by a mile.

Thanks for the info. I was so impressed with every member of the band yesterday. Was sad it took our last Sunday to see them....would've gone back the previous two also. There is always next year.

I posted here a couple of weeks ago about this place for a Sunday. Music begins around 12:30pm.
The menu is eclectic but mostly Italian or sandwiches, coffees and ice cream. My favorite is cafe langoise which is expresso, coffee ice cream, chocolate sauce and cream. Decatent!

You were right Ed. Went to Rondez Vous Lounge today for their Jazz Lunch from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. Music was outstanding and not something you would necessarily expect to see in St. Maarten. Started out with some lite jazz but later moved to more pop tunes. Don't often get to hear four horns at once but really added to the great sound. Food and service was very good as well. Would have been a perfect day except for the two guys next to us smoking cigars. Funny how folks will complain if someone starts playing music next to them but think nothing of lighting up a cigar or cigarette right next to another table. You don't want to hear my music and I don't want to inhale your smoke. Off my soap box. An enjoyable day that we hope to duplicate next Sunday.

I will have to try to remember to do that when we are on island. I remember a couple of really marvelous Sunday afternoons at Dreams with a french couple, singing light music. Of course, there was Bruno's food also. cry

The horns...the saxes....the guitars....all great. I did notice in SXM, that the ''smokers'' really don't care where they are, where others are in proximity, etc. They just light up, and think nothing of others around them. Since smoking is allowed in SXM, it becomes an even bigger problem. I guess that's the price we pay for paradise. smile Can't wait myself to do the Rendevous again next year.

But common courtesy DOES go a long way. Many people do not enjoy eating or dinking while someone near them just lights up! It's not a ''kansas'' thing...it's a humanity thing. smile

That's a pretty weak argument. If it's rude in Kansas, it's rude in St. Maarten. And these folks were not locals. They were Americans.......probably from Kansas.
