Going to a wedding early May @ La Concha resort.. We actually enjoy a bit quieter hotel. Any suggestions in that area that might be a bit less expensive and on the water? Thank You!

There's basically about a half mile of beach in that part of the Condado.
You're probably better off staying at the La Concha.
There are some less expensive like El Canario by the Lagoon
But they lack some of the conveniences like leaving your room in a swimsuit to go to the pool or beach plus other amenities that you'll only find in the larger hotels.

Thank you ~ now on to where to eat! We enjoy local smaller restaurants, usually not those at hotels since they are catering to tourists.. Restaurant suggestions appreciated!

Hotel food in general especially in the major chains are 5 Star presentation and 2 star quality.
The great thing about San Juan is the quality of the smaller restaurants regardless of ethnicity, the quality and service in general are superb or equal to restaurants of NY or other multi national cities.
In the Condado there are quite a few good restaurants a few steps from the La Concha or you could go to Old San Juan ( 2 miles from Condado) with the cobblestone streets and drenched in old colonial Spanish architecture where there are indoor and outdoor restaurant and Cafe's

Not Condado, but we really like either one of the sidewalk places in old town. Or the Metropolo (sp) at the end of Isla Verde. Great Cuban/PR food. Next to the Chcken fight ring. Can't type what the locals call it!

Either easy cab rides.

Find Jose Enrique's restuarant, I doubt you will be disappointed...
Cafe St. Germain in Old San Juan, Dragonfly.

I love The Metropol in Isla Verde. I've going there since the 1980's, and it's been in business since the 1960's.

Aguaviva on Fortaleeza in OSJ for seafood. Decent winelist, too.

NYC in SJU. Been there, done it, wouldn't go back.

I spent my money on booze, broads, and boats...the rest I wasted.
