The Bajan Trip Report – First timers (our excuse for this boring report) Nick & Brenda 04/24 – 05/06

Being native Barbadians, pristine waters, beautiful beaches and spectacular scenery already spoil us, therefore please understand when we say that the views in St. Martin did not blow us away

Prices for the visitor are similar with our Duty Free conveniences, with the exception of alcohol However, there are a few reasons why we will be regulars to this island

On this trip we unfortunately did not try many of the restaurants or attractions listed in this forum The food that we did try, though not cheap, was worth every cent (in most cases).

FOOD

Bay Watch (beach bar) – Great food (margarita buffalo shrimp) wonderful atmosphere and views, fabulous owners Andy & Cheryl. Had lunch here almost every day.
Cheri’s (roadside diner) – Great food (steak & shrimp platter), good service, hilarious show.
The Boat House (restaurant) – Sumptuous food, extraordinary service, beautiful setting (Simpson Lagoon).
Bikini’s – (beach restaurant) – Food ok, service ok, location great.

Leandra’s – (beach bar) – Poor food, slow service. Not an option, even when Bay Watch is closed (Mondays).
Papagayos – (Club O restaurant) Yuck, terrible tasteless food, no selection, though the service was ok, this place definately is not.

ATTRACTIONS

Club O - Not cheap but it was worth the experience, shopping, dancing, eating, tanning, and walking the entire Orient beach nude. I am sure that we had more fun watching the “gawkers” than they did us. Next year however, we will look for a cheaper alternative in the Orient area and use the beach facilities at the Club. Many repeat travellers seem to be doing this because of the increasing rates being charged. The Tiko Tiko was a fun day, however it should not be called a cruise as only 45 minutes are spent cruising the remainder of the day was on a small nude island. The captain (a compulsive flirt) was funny and handles his guest well

La Playa – Sunday beach parties are excellent (wives might not agree) lots of drinks, electric atmosphere and beautiful flirting French girls …. guys to buy the next round so they could flirt with the bar lady?

Cupecoy Beach – We went here one day only, on the crowded (westerly) section, a fantastic opportunity to go nude if time is limited (cruise ship passengers etc). The facilities, though limited are adequate. The rastaman’s cooler bar and barbeque drum is suffice. Locals and regulars have warned to exercise caution if going to the lonelier side of this beach.

Though we visited many of the other beaches, none really caught our attention too much.

Budget Car Rental – kept us 1-˝ hours waiting for them, we finally rented from Hertz who had an outlet at our Hotel.

BWIA (Better Walk If Able) – Great 1 1/4 hour flight, if you leave, had to over night due to a xld flight, besides the delay at the airport it was not that bad as they put us up at Maho resort (food and all).

SUMMERY
If our island (Barbados ) had an Orient beach, with its clothing optional mentality, I would probably never vacation anywhere else. However due to our over conservative attitude here we will just have to step over to SXM. This beach attracts the friendliest and most down-to-earth people I have ever met anywhere in the world and I dare say that we already miss all of you guys.

CONCLUSION
It’s not only the people of SXM that make it the friendly island, but it is all of you people that make it what it is.

A special thank you to - “The Fabulous Five”, Contessa, JaneJane, etc, for their friendship and to those great TTOL people that we met at “Contessa’s” Bikini gathering, see you all next year.
