Looking For info about Divi Carina Bay. They offer AI or just rooms. Are there grocery stores near? What is the distance from the airport? We want to explore the island in December. All suggestions welcome.

I must say that I have never stayed at Divi but have gone there for lunch on two different trips. The location of the resort is very nice, but must say that the Divi itself looks a bit tired. We have not been in the rooms so others may know better. Visiting STX at an AI does not seem like a great idea as there are so many great places to eat there. You will need a car and Divi is about 20 - 30 min from the airport and 20 min from shopping (grocery). Our meals at Divi (both lunches) were average but service was less than average (perhaps they knew we were not staying there but that should not really matter)! Was there a particular reason you were interested in the Divi or are you open to other options? We have visited STX 7 or 8 times and can offer some other ideas but would need to know more what you are looking for and what you like to do.

Thanks Sailorjane. We go to St Martin for Christmas/New Year and like to add one more island to Every year. STX has timeshares and we need to use up some older RCI credits. Divi has vacancy and airfare is reasonable. I am also debating Dominica for hiking, but St Croix is tempting me.

I think if you used Divi not as an AI and were not expecting much out of the rooms (again, maybe they are better on the inside than they look on the outside) and it is a great deal, then go for it. Wonder if you can get a deal that includes a breakfast as I imagine you will be out exploring for lunch and dinner. STX does have some hiking but not on par with Dominica (never have been but have heard it is very nice for that). There is much to do and see in STX and it is a relatively big island compared to most in the Caribbean. If you decide to go, let me know and I can give you a list of things you might like to do. If you go to Dominica would love to hear a trip report!
