Thinking of taking 3 other couples, the Admiral and myself to the Abacos in late September for a week of sailing. I have sailed in the BVI's on numerous occasions but this will be our first sailing venture here. My concern is the time of year and what we can expect from restaurants and other commercial establishments. Does everything shut down in last September? What can we expect?

Thanks in advance for your guidance and insight.

Eva and Rick Hill (no relation to me!) have done quite a bit of sailing in the Abacos. Last year, they threw off the bow lines and escaped to live on their sailboat for a while. You can see their current blog at http://sabrecalypso.wordpress.com/ I think you can drop them an email there.

And their regular home page, with reports from previous sailing adventures is at http://islandtime.homestead.com/

Businesses start closing down toward the end of August until late October. Ferries cut down their schedules, bars restaurants and hotels close during this period. I know this was particularly true of Elbow Cay. It could be that Marsh Harbour has more open during that time.
