I know I read about a cream sold here but not in US. Used for bite stings and faces actually. All I remember is it starts with B. anyone know?

That sounds like the Biofine I just purchased and applied to my sunburn, it worked wonders and took the sting away in minutes. Available at Maho Pharmacy for sure, but probably any good sized drugstore here on the island.

Respectfully,

I just posted this in another thread - the product is Biafine and it's pretty awesome stuff based on the way my feet and shins felt yesterday without it as compared to how good they feel today with it.

As suggested, I got it at the Maho Pharmacy and pad $12.95 for a good sized tube. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

Hubby got a bad burn due to a grill tipping over this past March. A friend told us to try this cream. It worked great. Got it in the pharmacy in Orleans. It was €7.90 which came to about $9.00.

To make the trip more viable, I will add french champagne and other french products to the shopping list.

All that good French stuff is very expensive in the US.

It is fantastic. We had friends with us last year and they were there for the first time. He didn't believe us how the sun was and he got a really bad burn. We gave him the Biofine and the burn was gone the next day. We have been using it for over 30 years and buy a tube every year to bring home with us. It is cheaper on the French side down the road from Dreams <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/usflag.gif" alt="" />

Biafine is used mostly for 1st and 2nd degree burns and for sunburn -the product comes with detailed instructions on its uses.

For simple bug bites a less expensive product such as Cortizone 10 works very well.

I agree with Bobcat. This product is for serious burns. Mosquito bites I use Cortizone.
That being said, every commercial kitchen I know of has Silvadene for serious burns. Other burn salves ...
Also prescribed are drugs called Becaplermin® and Silvadene®, which are antibiotics that prevent infection. Other medications may be recommended to ease pain, too;
Cheers

Just to clarify for everyone posting on this thread, it was originally started 2.5 years ago. Some of the information, especially with regards to prices and availability, may be way out of date.

Regarding Biafine, I purchased some for a friend a year or two ago and was able to find it in Simpson Bay after being told it was ONLY available on the French side.

It is good to see that someone must have used the "search" option.

I agree. There is nothing better for serious burns than Silvadene. If used immediately after a burn, it will prevent blister formation.(on most burns)

We bought Biofine at both the Maho and Simpson Bay Pharmacy in May the year before this last May. Wasn't very expensive.

Here is a mail order link. From what I recall, it was less than $30 per tube when I last bought some for the friend.

I recall I paid less than 20 USD for the large tube and around 12 for the regular size.
