We are confirmed the end of May and I haven’t done any research on necessary protocol for departure or re-entry for our trip. We are vaccinated but not boosted, is getting a booster helpful at all in the process?

With a booster you will not need a Covid test to submit your EHAS application or for entrance to SXM. That is the existing policy but subject to change in the future.

Does the EHAS application have to be executed right before departure? What does that entail?

Yes. No more than 72 hours prior to last connecting flight to SXM.

If you are fully vaccinated with a booster than you have 3 calendar days in which to submit your EHAS application, before arrival in SXM. Replies can take up to 12 hours, but are usually returned within a couple of hours. If you are fully vaccinated without the additional booster than you will be submitting your results within 48 hours or 24 hours depending on the required Covid test you are submitting. Your best bet is to thoroughly review the EHAS Travel Requirements, than you can ask questions about what you don't understand. A link to the travel requirements is below. The application can also be found on the same site as the link below.

EHAS travel requirements

Do your own due diligence and ask for help with that which you don't understand or want clarified. Someone else has already posted incorrect information on this thread in response to your original query and that could cause problems. CYA

Thank you so much for this information, very helpful.
Regarding re-entry to US, you must get a Covid test in SXM just prior to departure and regardless of vaccination status?

From the Gov website.
"The Minister also wants to notify the local population and the rest of the world that as of March 1st 2022, we will revert back to allowing persons who received their booster shot or two(2) doses of an approved vaccine, two(2)weeks or more prior to traveling, may enter the Country without requiring a test. Persons who have recovered from COVID-19 up to 9 months post infection, will also be allowed entry to the country without requiring a test.
“These first steps are a phased approach towards the normalcy strategy.” Said Minister Ottley. In the next phase other mandates and restrictions will be lifted in a careful and safe manner to ensure a safe and effective transition into normalcy".

Hopefully that will change for fully vaxed and boosted citizens.
