Hi All,
Going sailing again in SVG in late July.
The 2 week plan is to start and end in Grenada, only go as high as Bequia and by-pass Mustique.
My question surrounds checking out of Union... After we check out of Union how long do you have before we have to check back in in Carriacou? My plan was to check out of Union in the morning and spend the night in PSV before leaving for Carriacou the next day.
Is this legal? Or does SVG immigration prefer you check out and leave the same day?
thanks

Anchoring overnight would probably be ok but they wouldn't want you to go ashore on PSV.

Why not do it properly? Union, PSV and Carriacou are so close together it isn't difficult to spend the night in PSV, then a quick sail or motor to Union and then on to Carriacou.

Sorry, can't remember my login. Actually, you can clear out of SVG 24 hrs ahead of departure. So, for instance, you may clear out of Union on Wed. morning for Thur. You may then anchor in PSV overnight and be completely legal, as you have 24 hrs to vacate the country. Your dept clearance will be for Thurs, so no problems in Carriacou.

Also note that customs has an office in Tyrrel Bay now, so clearance can be done in either Tyrrell Bay or Hillsborough, whichever is more convenient.

Have fun,

Bob

I agree with Sailorboy. We did the same thing earlier this year without any problems. I would recommend clearing in in Tyrell Bay rather than Hillsborough. It's a nice big sheltered anchorage and the office is a just a few steps from the shoreline. Easy!

Plus one on Sailorboy's info. We will be doing same in a couple days. Also,we don't much care for the anchorage in Clifton, crowded with moorings that may or not be legal and/or maintained well. We have previously anchored in Ashton, in the lee of Frigate Island and walked or bussed into Clifton to clear in and out with no problem.

Sorry don't have my password where I am.
Thanks for the answers confirming my hope that we have 24 hours to leave. And thanks for the hint about Tyrell bay. I was under the impression that the main town was the only customs clearance area... So you saved me an extra stop.
Many thanks
