Booked a Star Clipper Cruise from Malta through Sicily to the Greek Islands in April. Have read up on what to do on Malta prior but looking for local experience. Want to be able to travel about but have read some warnings about driving on Malta. I think Tom B may have had a trip there. Any assistance with which we should do- go with tours or book a car and venture out on our own, I am good at researching but wondering about ease of travel? Also looking to see how Malta would be for long term rental in retirement. Would you recommend we reach out to a real estate specialist for a consult?

Thanks in Advance

Hoping this is the beginning of getting back to somewhat normal travel ( once we get through all the multi tests we need for travel to different countries)

Hi Diane... I don't think driving in Malta is particularly difficult. They drive on the correct side ( duel) of the road. But seriously, I swap between driving on the left and the right every couple of months. It will seem weird at first but I never find I have to think about for more than the first few minutes. My only recommendation would be to make sure you rent an automatic. Changing gear in a manual using the wrong hand really does take some getting used to. Stick to an automatic and you'll be fine. cheers

Toast,

You are headed to one of our favorite vacations of all time. We did do a blog ( https://malta16.blogspot.com/ )
We did do a page dedicated to driving in Malta and our decision process Link: To Drive or Not To Drive

We were staying on the far western end of the island in Mellieha and when we went to Valletta we rode the bus.
Valletta is insane - Only worst place is Cairo!
Everywhere else on the island driving is not bad even though driving on the WRONG side of the road laugh

Malta is such a special place enjoy!

BTW - the Syrah and Chardonnay in Malta is WORLD class if you are into wine. Spend the euros and you will be impressed.

We cannot wait until our next trip to Malta - Enjoy the blog.

Let us know how the trip on the Star Clipper goes. I'd like to do one more transatlantic under sail and a Star Clipper is probably the sensible option!
