We're staying on STT for a week next month. Private home, rental car.

Looking to go over to St Johns for a day. Just a day trip, no overnight. My friend says we can take our rental r/t on the ferry for the price of four of us on the passenger ferry. That right?

Definitely worth taking the car barge. Do not buy a round trip ticket. Try and hit the second to last returning car barge to make certain your wheels are not stuck on STJ overnight.

You need to make certain your car rental agency allows their vehicles to go to STJ. Hertz does not.

You've been around and probably know this, but If you do not have 4WD I would recommend that you do not go past Cinnamon Bay on North Shore Road. If its raining I would not go past Trunk Bay on North Shore Road.

Cheers, RickG

Good links, thanks for the info. Might take the ferry over to JVD. even though we were there this month by boat. Our friends haven't but very much want to visit Soggy Dollar and area. Back to Gertrude's and lunch would be good though.

Wonder if ferry wouldn't be better than the party boats we saw. Yuck! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

I spent my money on booze, broads, and boats...the rest I wasted.

I always recommend the ferry instead of the party barge for JVD. You get more time on the beach and less time with people you don't know. But, STT has a lot of fun areas. Check out Hull Bay, Water Island/Honeymoon Beach, Brewers Bay in addition to the usual Magens/East End standards. I'll be honest, we tend to run past a lot of the STT attractions to hit STJ, but St. Thomas has a lot going for it.

Cheers, RickG

I agree Rick, it gets worse rap then it deserves, mostly on this board. Thousands of people have fabulous vacations in St.Thomas. Coki Beach is another favorite of ours.

One thing to remember, the last car ferry is 7 pm. If you want to stay later, you are better off taking the people ferry.

Thanks all...great info as usual.

We have a multi-million dollar house on the north shore, but will have a whole week to explore. Lot better than a quick cruise stop.

Now if my wife forgets where that fantastic jewelry shop is -The one that sends us a Christmas card every year- I'll be ahead of the game!
