Just some croissants from the RP market for breakfast. Stayed at RP. A bit windy. Not bad. My expectation was for more people like old days preIrma and pre Covid. In any case, it has been pleasant so far.

Went to Sublime in Maho. Nice place! Heard same owner as Jax, but does not make sense since they are in competition with each other. Oh well, We shared French oysters. Very good. My wife had scallops and risotto. I had rack of lamb. Hers was deemed very good -mine was excellent. A bit expensive but we enjoyed it. Ate outside. Recommend but bring checkbook.

I really don't think it is the same owner as Jax, but have heard a lot of good things about Sublime.

I don’t generally get caught up in The Who’s Who of great island eateries but…….. my understanding that Das (I think….) was the chef at one if the big two places that used to be by the Starz Casino. My understanding is he left and opened his own place at what used to be the Kissing Fish at the Summit. Irma did her damage there but not to give up on his dream, he reopened in a little out of the way spot in Simpson Bay just off the main drag. We dined there a few times and the food was always excellent and very reasonably priced even though the location left room for improvement. My understanding that his move to Maho was predicated by entering into a partnership arrangement with a couple of others of the island restaurant industry but I don’t think Jax was one mentioned to me.

And knowing how island gossip is so often wrong I probably shouldn’t have said all this so let me just end by saying each time we’ve dined in any of their locations we have NEVER been disappointed.

Respectfully,

pat

Surrendra Lal Das (new Sublime) and Dharmendra Lal were partners at the original Sublime that Pat referred to in Simpson Bay. Dharmendra Lal used to be at Temptation, and Pat listed Das's prior affiliations. Das left to form the new Sublime, and Dharmandra Lal formed Kalua Beach Bar and Restaurant on the Boardwalk. I very much doubt that Das has anything to do with Jax.

Thanks for your thoughts and clarifications, Linda. I don’t generally pay too close attention as to who owns what where or who is head chef where and DH and I aren’t particularly what you’d consider to be foodies in the true sense of the word. I do think the original Sublime, rather than in Simpson Bay, may have been at Kissing Fish if only ever so briefly but as is so often the case, I could easily be wrong, too.

I just looked out my window and it’s snowing again. Two more weeks to wait……🙂🙂

You could be correct, that Simpson Bay was the second iteration. I did go to the place at the Summit once but don't recall if it was named Sublime or something else.

More likely I’m wrong but it’s not a big deal either way. Will we see you in April or November? It would be nice…..😊😊
