The two new ferries are finally in service. They were at Crown Bay for a year waiting to go into service.

I was just on STJ for a week (7/30-8/3 & 8/6-8/10) and never saw them move. No one could answer my questions about what is going on with them.

I rode one a couple of weeks ago. They don't seem to leave the dock very often. On Wednesday night we rode an old ferry to St John and back.

This is a a pretty dead time of year and maybe there is not enough use to put them in operation

The local STJ newspaper reports ferries are too small for daily rush hour commute and uncomfortable ride when the swell is up.

This Daily News article pretty much summarizes all the rumors and government stonewalling.
