Just priced tickets through AA’s website roundtrip from SJU to EIS in late July. 1183 dollars roundtrip!! Kayak came up with a 276 dollar fare.

Im seeing about $300 RT SJU-EIS in July. I have made the trip LAX to Tortola 74 times in the past 41 years and only 4 times thru San Juan and each time I did go thru San Juan something happened to make me ask myself WHY!! Bad connections, no connections, lost baggage, stolen belongings out of baggage. St Thomas has been basically flawless 1981 to present. I often spend the night of arrival and departure on St Thomas but that's because im getting older and like to walk.

Is this Cape Air vs. InterCaribbean? I didn’t look at the specific airline. I just priced it on American’s website.

spent $50/minute today because Cape Air has cancelled everything for today. I suspect Friday will be the same

Our one-way business class tickets in December cost us $679/each. The exact same tickets, purchased today, are $1704! This is American through Miami and San Juan. Even economy seats are now more than we paid.
They changed the first leg from a 737 to an Embraer, so no idea if our carry-ons will fit in the cabin. Fortunately we opted for a long layover. There is a cheaper option through Charlotte with a 35 minute layover, but that's asking for trouble.
This could be a tough travel season for the BVI.

We just got back from the BVI's and met lots of folks that were full of horror stories from the airlines. Mainly from San Juan to Beef and back to San Juan. Apparently, they're doing whatever it takes to maximize revenue/capacity on each plane. Consolidating flights, causing 5-7 hour delays, holding people over to the next morning etc. etc. making sure the plane doesn't fly unless it's absolutely FULL. (Heard these stories about Cape Air, Inter-Caribbean and Silver) I'm starting to think that the flight to St. Thomas may not be all that bad next time. Hopefully a couple taxis and a couple ferries later we'll get to where we are going. Flying into Beef is nice but gosh it's expensive and difficult!

We fly direct into STT and get to VG in one day. In over 20 years of traveling into STT we have only been delayed once with no real significant loss of $ Once the new Frenchmans Reef opens I may start adding an overnight but for now I just live with one long travel day.

I fly always to STT and stay overnight at The Emerald Beach ( if I can)...dinner in Frenchtown, nice breakfast next morning and ferry. You can keep San Juan thanks.

I always fly into STT to get there by 1;30 PM so I can make the 2::30 ferry and then the 4:30 Speedy ferry to VG.

Thanks for the Emerald Beach tip Mal - we stayed there a couple weeks ago headed north. Not Fancy, but the beach bar is great people watching territory.

There aren't any direct flights from Birmingham to EIS. 2 stops minimum.

"Direct'; and "Non Stop" mean two very different things in airplane speak...

After the mess we had last trip we are avoiding EIS-SJU route at all costs from now on. I will take a flight to STT and a water taxi anytime over that catastrophe. Glad I booked our upcoming trips before the fuel price explosion - our January trip is more than double what I paid……
