I was trying to put all of the meals in some order, but it was hurting my brain. Instead, here's a list of where we dined and drank and my impressions.
  • Sebastian's - since Sebastian's was a short walk from the villa they were our first taste of the BVI, as well as the go-to place after our day at JVD and we were too tired to go anywhere else. Conch fritters were rubbery and "fishy" tasting. A chicken dish I had was way over-cooked and dry, saved only by the tamarind sauce. Vegetables were clearly steamed from frozen. No attempt made to disguise that. Their house rum was actually pretty damn good. I had their "signature" rum cocktail - over rocks with lime juice - and found it quite enjoyable. I would only go back there for the rum.

  • Bannakeet - can't beat the view! The bride loved her meal. I thought mine was good, but not great. I can't say it tops my list of somewhere I'd go back to given other choices.

  • The Elm - I only heard about this place from TTOL regular, Manpot. It stirred a spirited discussion here on what "BBQ" is and is not. It is one of the beach front joints on Cane Garden, and the BBQ was really freakin' good. No, it isn't Southern hard-wood smoked 'Q. It is island inspired and flavored. We ate there twice. The first night we didn't stay for the house band - the Elmtones - and I was chastised by Manpot and my wife for wimping out early. Our second night, however, with Manpot, his wife, and two friends of theirs, we did stay to listen to a smaller version of the Elmtones. They are good. Real good. Go to the Elm. Have the BBQ. Stay for the band!

  • Cruzin' - why isn't this place on the list of "best places to eat in the BVI"? After our first night it became my favorite place so far. The Caribbean lobster was amazingly good (3.5 pounds shared between my wife and me), and the second meal - a to-go order - was the best roti I had while we were there. Beautiful location in Carrot Bay - not waterfront. If you're "lucky" you may get preached to from the tent revival across the street.

  • Peg Leg - I picked up some to-go food (eating on the patio at the villa was the best location of all) for lunch one day. It was good. Not great. It was passable bar food, and probably would have been great if we were playing seaside at Nanny Cay where their beach front bar and pool are. No reason to go for just the food though.

  • Top Of the Baths - probably just on the upside of "good", but after a day at the baths and looking for a place to unwind and relax it was damn good. Eating a bacon cheeseburger with a green banana salad and rum runner while over looking the sea and islands was a great experience.

  • Mad Dog - this is another little bar and sandwich shop at the top of the Baths. It was probably my favorite bar style, and the bartender/cook was beyond hospitable. We found out they are cash only joint after our drinks had been poured, and we had just enough cash for our cab ride back to the ferry docks. Not enough for the drinks. She comped us. Amazing. Still makes me smile. I need to find out how to send them the money we owe them. A really charming beach bar.

  • Trellis Bay Cybercafe - probably our least favorite place. "Service" was almost non-existent. The food wasn't bad, but it wasn't worth the long wait to order and be served. We were kind of forced to go back there a second time for breakfast on our last day. We were looking for breakfast near the airport, and they were open (note: we learned the airport has what looked like a pretty good breakfast on-site). We walked in, but no one was around. Seriously - the doors were open - music was on - but there wasn't a soul in sight. I tried to find someone for a few minutes - even went into the kitchen. We left to try the last place possible which was closed. On the way back to the car, we walked past the Cybercafe and saw two people in the kitchen! We stopped one more time and had a fairly good breakfast. Won't go back.

  • Myett's - heresy, I'm sure, but I wasn't impressed. The server was one of the cutest island girls I saw during the week. She was friendly and all smiles but typical of island style service - inattentive and slow. The ribs weren't as good as the ribs at the Elm and cost a lot more.

  • Soggy Dollar - <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Groovin.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/drinking.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/pirate.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Joy.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

  • Da Best Cup (West End) - they don't get enough kudos. Very good coffee (and I'm a coffee snob). Delicious and filling breakfast. Good service. Price point was what one might expect at a resort breakfast place. I look forward to being in West End again so I can have breakfast there.

There are a few bars around Atlanta who claim to make Painkillers - they suck. Island Painkillers are the best - especially at Soggy. I found a recipe on another BVI info site and tried it. It's close, but not perfect. I think it is the desalinated ice that makes the difference <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

I am not a "light lager" beer fan. I think Corona ranks near the bottom with Natural Light and Schafers. That said, I loves me some cold Caribe in a beach side restaurant.
