Headed to SXM on October 22 for a four week stay. Just wondering what the sargassum situation looks like there now on Orient and Dawn Beach. Anyone there who might know?

Predictions published in SXM Weekly News say things are looking good for the next several weeks at least re: Sargassum. Quoted experts at predicting such things.

We are headed to Orient beach around the same time. So far it sounds like it's not bad. We like Kontiki, they keep the beachfront really clean all day!
Sand Gravity, got to love it!

According to a story in the Daily Herald this morning, Cul de Sac is currently totally clear. Link

Sargassum still a significant issue on Dawn Beach this week. Haven’t been over to Orient yet; maybe today or tomorrow.

We were at Orient yesterday. There was a little, but not much in the water. The north end however is a different story.

It was all along the beachfronts today north and south. At Kontiki, and surrounding beachfronts no raking. It wasn’t awful though, mostly on the sand.

Made it there today. Not bad really, considering what it’s been. Dawn Beach is MUCH worse.

Dawn Beach seems to be hit the hardest, most of the time. Dawn Beach was never my favorite anyway, but at this point, I would not stay there regardless, because of that potential.

We own at Coral Beach Club so Dawn Beach is virtually out our front door. The sargassum situation is certainly a fairly regular issue but it’s not as bad at our end of the beach as it is closer to OBBR. We love the resort and really like Oyster Pond. Admittedly, it was better pre-Irma when there were several more restaurants available such as Canoa, Mr. Busby’s/Daniel’s and Capt. Oliver’s but those that remain, like Big Fish and Mama Pizza for example, are wonderful. We also like the easy access to either the Dutch or French side of the island. 10 minutes from Orient. Works for us.

Glad it works out for you, but I wouldn't really recommend anyone to rent in that area, due to the continuing issues.
