This is the first year we did not dress up for Halloween so no costume photos.

Gorgeous day at Orient who should we run into ? Truly it is a small world. The beach guy comes over to get us settled at LaPlaya and who should it be but Julian who we met 20 years ago at Waikiki. It was a nice day at LaPlaya especially catching up.

The beach at that end of Orient is much wider and there was several beach guys raking the seaweed so it was much cleaner at LaPlaya than where we were last week.

There’s a new owner and a new menu. Double the dining area than we had previously seen.

We enjoyed our sushi lunch immensely. The presentation was beautiful.
We ordered a special roll of the day: shrimp tempura on the inside with mango and salmon on the outside. Mahi-mahi sashimi and tuna sushi. They added Seaweed salad as well as some fried onions and plantain chips. Regular soy sauce, low sodium and sweet soy were also on the table.

We returned to Spaghetti house for a second time this trip. David and I both had the fettuccine Alfredo. Mine with shrimp and his with chicken. Both were delicious. Our friend got the last piece of lasagna (we called ahead to reserve it). Mike had fettuccine carbonara while not on menu this evening she had kitchen put one together.

We didn’t dress last year either but did bring costumes. If you look at my past SXM trip reports at this time of year there will be pic for Halloween. We were a small group and others don’t dress. Also Buc’s was a kiddie party this year starting at 3 pm.

Looks like Bruno's sushi chef is still at La Playa; looking forward to that in a couple of weeks,

Always liked LaPlaya before Irma but haven't been back since.

The only reason we visit La Playa is to say hello to GP.

Enjoying your updates--I think the presentation alone may finally convince me to try sushi! Looks delicious! For a first-timer, what do you suggest we try?

Get something cooked like shrimp tempura or a veggie roll. Futomaki is a nice mix of some pickled veggies. They definitely have shrimp tempura roll. Yellowtail is a very mellow fish. The mahi-mahi was similar. I’d go with a lighter tasting fish before you go with one stronger in taste.

I would suggest a maki roll which is dried seaweed aka nori. Those have a multitude of fillings and will help ease your palate into eating raw fish. Then move to nigiri style which is a piece of fish on top of sushi rice. Sashimi is thinly sliced fish, no rice. I wouldn’t suggest that for a sushi newbie. Enjoy 😉

The green stuff is wasabi so use very little at first.
