This has certainly been a laid-back start to our trip but it’s been all good so far…….

We have plenty of time on island this trip and the weather is what it is. No sense belly-aching and regretting your trip. Every so often, Mother Nature decides to throw a curveball and I’m thinking this is one of those ‘so oftens’.

We had our breakfast in - nothing fancy - orange juice , coffee, Texas toast and some of Zee Bests yummy pastries, and all this after we wiped up some of the water that leaked in overnight Saturday night to Sunday morning. The rain was horrific and water will always find a way to seek its own level. The staff here was terrific and so apologetic that this happened but hey! It’s life and it is what it is. Seems like a major roof repair is in their future. We overheard conversations while we were out and it seems like a boatload of people island wide had water issues overnight.

Again today, Sunday, the rain has been intermittently horrific and then a beautiful blue sky appears briefly. We sat out by the pool for a while and decided to go get some take-out for dinner and of course, it started to rain again. We did finally make our way out and beyond Beacon Hill and Lake White Sands to find something that appealed for dinner. Went to Marks Place for some of their yummy ribs and escalloped (could have been au gratin?) potatoes and reheated them for dinner. Yummy! By the time we got back the internet person was here and had the problem resolved and our internet restored. I really didn’t expect it to be repaired on the weekend but they sure do take things seriously here.

Great dinner with a lunch left over for each of us down the road. Watched a little tv and off to bed wondering what tomorrow will bring.

Some observations along the way…..
When we deplaned at PJIA we entered via the far end of the terminal and it was a breeze and so very quick. And once again, the wheel chair service was perfect. Wish I could say the same about the baggage off-loading but in the end we’re here and it’s all good.
It breaks my heart to see all the new high rise construction around Mullet Bay and the state of total disrepair at our once beloved Towers at MB. The Fourteen, IMHO, sticks out like a sore thumb on what was once a pristine part of the golf course. Probably just the times we’ve been out but no golfers on the course and it’s even more of a mess this trip than last.
Everything is green so the rain has been good for something, if not for working on the much coveted sun tan.
Here at BSV the workers are out very early raking up the seaweed but there’s not as much as I expected given the strong seas. Very little, in fact.
Will they EVER solve the drainage issues on so many of the roads?

Right now, 8:30 Monday morning, the sun is brilliant and gleaming but if you look far to the horizon things are looking darker. A rain shower mebbe? We probably need the rain? Yeah! Right! 🙂🙂

Another quiet and laid back day although between both of us, DH and I spent over an hour on the phone catching up with an island friend.

Dinner tonight was at Skip Jacks and it was lovely. I could smell our escargot in garlic butter sauce as the waiter, Kelvin (Sp?) left the kitchen with them. And then we chose our favorite island entree - grilled lobster. DH even had room for ice cream but I don’t know how after all that lobster. It was $24.95 a pound and worth every cent IMHO. They were served with a side salad and your choice of multiple side dishes. This will probable be our big island splurge dinner and we loved it. Skip Jack, like so many other places these days, adds the 15 percent sc and will let you add any additional gratuity to your cc if you’re of a mind to.

Edited to add:

It’s 7 am on Tuesday Nov 8, US Election Day.
So okay, then, it’s raining. AGAIN!! And I’m almost ready to whine and belly-ache! Awoke in the wee hours to the pitter patter of more raindrops and it’s been pouring ever since. Sadly, our roof has leaked and it’s a little soggy in our unit. But this, too, will pass. Won’t it?

Respectfully,

pat

Hi Pat!

Your escargots and lobster sound so delicious! I swear I saw a sign in Simpson Bay for Lobster at $19.95 per pound, but for the life of me, can't remember where it was. Too much Rose I guess.

I hope the rain goes away soon. It's been a challenge planning our days around the not so stellar weather.

Our trip is coming to an end, and we've only spent two hours at the beach. I'm not a happy camper...

Louise,

It is what it is and over all these years, this weekend has certainly been a first. You beat feet out of Dodge just in the nick of time to avoid the deluge.

I’m sure it will get better and thank heavens we’re not cooped up in a hotel bedroom because if we were,I’d be bonkers! Or more so than I normally am!

Astra had lobster at $19.95 per pound when we were there in August (and it was advertised on their sign outside). Perhaps that is where you saw it.

Actually too soon since we didn’t even get to say hello. Today marks the beginning of our second week on island and we have yet to get into the pool or the ocean. Since I doubt we’re going to connect this trip, please know I wish you both safe travels home with good flights. 🙂🙂
