Friends of ours at Orient Beach yesterday and said you can not get in the water anyplace along the entire beach. Very thick in water and beach and somewhat smelly. They ended up leaving and went to Simpson Bay Beach ....no problem there, beaches were very clean and not nearly the wind problem. Hopefully it clears up in the next few weeks.

The sargassum has been a problem on the Atlantic side of the island for quite some time.

The beaches here in Grand Case are Sargassum-free at the moment. The Sargassum crisis has been growing annually for the past couple of years, see NPR Article and SAWS study

If the scientist can figure out what is churning this up out of South America, it could be kept under control.
