I'm looking for any recommendations for dining near Windward Passage in Charlotte Amalie. As a kid our favorite was a restaurant in Palm Passage that had the best French Onion soup and Escargot but I don't think that is there anymore. Can't remember the name.

I like Café Amalia (Spanish food) in Palm Passage. Maynard and Helga are the owners and are great people.

I like the green house restaurant a few hundred feet to the east of the hotel. The hotel will also recommend it. . Check them out online

I have great memories of the green house in St Martin. Same place. I had a good meal there. Twice.

I second the walk to Frenchtown! Just a few minutes away, and so many great choices. Sadly....even McDonalds.

I didn't know that Charlotte Amalie was moved to the BVI! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

I agree with Amalia Cafe - wonderful mussels, great salads... Greenhouse is an entire different atmosphere with (IMHO) mediocre food. Love Hook, Line and Sinker- especially their almond crusted yellowtail. Another great place in Frenchtown is Alexander's Bella Blu.

Hook Line & Sinker, Pie Whole (big beer list), Twisted Cork, Betsy's in French Town. Betsy's has a late night menu. Gladys' Cafe and Cuzzin's for West Indian fare in CA proper.

Cheers, RickG

We walked to the Green House from Winward for dinner a few years ago. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> We had fun there. More like a bar type atmosphere. The bang bang shrimp was delicious!

Sorry, I was asleep at the switch there.. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

I like the Greenhouse for bar food.. Enjoyed our meal at Hook, Line and Sinker--but then it could have had something to do with the company. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Oops, sorry I put this in the BVI section. Had BVI on the brain since this is just an overnight stop on our way there.

Since you mentioned escargot and french onion soup, I was assuming you were looking for finer dining. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" /> The Greenhouse is bar food. Cuzzin's, while one of my favorite places in town, is closed for dinner. Carol always has fun, no matter where she goes. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />

Hook, Line, & Sinker. Make a reservation if you can. We went around 6:00 and it was already full.
