I read somewhere that moorings were being installed last month in Key Bay, Peter Island. Has anyone used these yet?

There are two moorings in Key Bay. They are DIVE BALLS and yes people are using them for overnights. They should not be using them for anything other than Diving the WillyT.

One Key Bay ball showing up on the Boaty Ball app.
First Come First Serve Moorings at Willie T Wreck By Beyond The Reef Location: Beyond The Reef (BVI Nonprofit) asks for a $5 donation per diver to support local swim lessons. This mooring is for donations only and NOT FOR OVERNIGHT STAYS. Use Mooring Ball ID "BTR" +12843461444 1beyondthereef@gmail.com

I have previously raised this issue. Whether the briefings are inadequate, charterers don't care, or they're too cheap to pay $40 is not clear. There is no explanation that is a good look. How to stop it? Maybe patrols and steep fines, or some kind of bounty payment for a photo of a boat, with name, on a dive mooring after dark.

I often head over from Norman early to dive the WillyT. It’s not unusual to see both balls occupied and not a dive tank in sight or a person for that matter as everyone is sleeping! People get belligerent when asked to leave after you wake them up. Last time one ball was open and we grabbed it. Shortly after a dive boat showed up and the discussion appeared to get nasty as we went under. When we surfaced the dive boat was on the ball.

It a fine over night anchorage. Anchor well inboard of the dive balls closer to the beach. Not a great beach as it’s a bit rocky.
