Writing these notes on the flight home

ShopnDrop – online grocery
Wilfred Brooks - cab
AAA - car rental
All great, all worth your patronage

Spent about 3 wks in Orient Bay, an apt located immediately behind the Kontiki water sports area. Side gate and about 2 minutes to the beach if you hurry, but why hurry.

Wife and I arrived on WestJet non stop from Toronto – 1st trip back in 4 yrs, 9th in total.
For de-plane-ing, here are new ramps that zig zag for deplaning, easy to use, but you still get bussed to the terminal. Fairly easy thru security. Got luggage and then joined stopped line to go through another check. No lines, just a mass crowd funneling past one person. Later was told security was looking for something something in someone[s]luggage. Needs some improvement in the logistics.
Wilfred Brooks was waiting, always glad to see his smiling face. Leisurely drive! to Orient Village. Jeanie of ShopnDrop had done her magic and supplies as ordered and in the fridge were cold drinks – yeah. All squared away, drinks and snack at Yellow Sub. They have music 6 days a wk starting at 8.
Winners
Chez Leandra’s – no hustle, great food, nice chill. Red Snapper, lobster, garlic shrimps, jerk chicken, all good. We hung out there most Days when we went to the beach. Next year the seafood boil
On Dirait le Sud – near Good Morning café, Fr and Italian deli. All the dried meats direct from Italy, 16 – 18 choices of antipasto, nice cheese, fresh pasta, lasagna, gnocchi all made on site plus assorted sauces, jams and sheep’s fat soap – hmmm
Worth checking out – we had several charcuterie & fromage nights after large beach lunches – excellent.

Good Morning Café
My choice for café au lait a emporter, deux croissant and maybe a baguette. Tried the small quiches – very good

Bonamama Pizza – same area. They have rotisserie chicken -just OK and great thin crust pizza. I would walk over order a pie and beer. Pizza was ready when the beer was done, We like white sauce pizzs and they were good.

Orient Village Sq Restaurants make me think of Provence when dinner starts

Orange Fever – we had the moules one day – very good and excellent service.

Pirates Hideaway, next to the old non existent Pedro’s – excellent grilled fish

Grand Case Lolo – Au Coins de Temps – met Elvis – rib chicken platter with 2 sides at 16 US was good value.

Marigot
Wilfred Brooks wife has a small resto in the area just south of the market, north of the fish market
Ka Too Too Korner – check it out, we ate twice and excellent cooking.
We found the Fr lady who sells Fr linens. When can you have too many tea towels – apparently never.
Found Olive and Kevin for nutmegs and cinnamon stick. She no longer is hand painting the bottles for sauces, lucky we saved some!

Tenderloin / Strip loin / Lamb centre cut chops we brought from home [Burlington Ontario]– J&G Butcher – P&P will know where – we grilled on charcoal at our rental

Super U in Hope Estate – love the selection, strangely no club soda – found it at the Chinese grocery around the corner from Super U across rom L’Express

Bacchus – love the rhum selection and the help in choosing.

The fish store across from Leader Price in Hope Estate. Name escapes me but translated means fisherman’s shack – I think. Open Monday to Sat 8 to 1:30

Random thoughts
Super U was 1:1 US cash, but today learned it’s now 1:05 to 1
Otherwise received fair exchange at all the shops w went to

Compared to 10 yrs ago, little cigar smoking on Orient, a bit of a relief for us

Parrot Ville, good outing

Oyster Pond, so disappointing to see the damage.

Yellow Sub, disappointing service, off the rotation

Pedro’s – learned it will rebuild – Pedro’s sister? will be working on the reconstruction – containers on site with materials, no timing.

Tijon, after nine trips decided to visit, should have come sooner.

We booked for next year while on island, same dates, different uit, same complex - guess we liked this years trip!

Thanks for the report. Did your unit have a view of the beach? What was the situation with the water when you were there? Can't remember if you were one of the ones who reported no water?

That's the first I have heard about Pedros rebuilding. Funny, if they start rebuilding before Club O! duh

We did have part view of the water and always heard the waves lapping
Beach - some seaweed, but never an issue
Water - we did lose water from about 4pm till 10 am next day. A broken pipe had been repaired - units had water shut off for about 30 minutes in the afternoon, and all were turned back on, except ours.

Thanks for the recap. Sorry we missed you. I think we were on the flight home on the day you arrived. We are also booked for next year. Our unit is behind Wai Plage, the complex with one pool. It has it's own cistern which was a plus this trip.
Funny we brought the same meats also from J&G! H
Have to agree with you on Yellow Sub. We did have one good dinner there sitting at the bar but gave up after that as service was very hit and miss and mostly miss. We enjoyed the bar at La Favela. Fred the bartender and perhaps night manager used to work at Yellow sub a few years ago when JR was there. We enjoyed great service and drinks there many nights. They also have a good tapas menu.
Happy to hear you had a good trip. Maybe we will cross paths next year.
