Happy 28th anniversary to my wife

we sometimes treat ourselves to breakfast out but with some "leftovers" from the previous evening a pan was full of lobster and spinach before being finished into an omelette

watched westjet arrive in the late afternoon and met DrPhil at the driftwood for a couple drinks
Could have stayed the rest of the night but had plans to visit our Maho jeweler to just say hello and then unto Azul the specialty restaurant located at the Point of the Sonesta

upon arrival at the Sonesta the front desk they will escort you on a golf cart back to the Point which tis he upgraded section of the Sonesta
At their front desk you check in, pay $75 pp and receive a wrist band for the evening

The $75 includes a five course dinner, bottled water and 3 drinks pp
not sure they actually keep tracks of your drinks since almost every other table is occupied by hotels guests for which their meals and drinks are all inclusive
we also noticed that no one left any tips
in the old days when staying at AI resorts and especially in the high end restaurants, we would always leave something extra
not sure the clientele was up to the level of the restaurant judging by their behavior and the table closest to us bringing their own hot sauce to the table

there are several selections for each course

our young server was extremely friendly and the restaurant is beautiful but I am sure the view would be incredible during the day

After 17 diners on the island I finally enjoyed my first appetizer of escargots while my wife selected the vegetarian spring rolls
The portions are smaller which was fine with plenty more to come

Our second course arrived as we were still enjoying our first course only to be sent back to the kitchen

we selected one each of the two soups, the pea soup was tasty but could have used something for a little texture
the Thai soup was a little spicy and garnished with a hard boiled egg, not something I would normally order but glad I made this selection

Again a food runner arrives early while our soup bowls are still half full

we both chose the salad with fresh sliced raw tuna as it was the most interesting

I watched as our entrees made a circle around the dining room as the food runner seemed lost but finally made his way

My short ribs were very good with a delicious sauce, short ribs do very well when reheated
My wife's marlin was dry but thankfully came with a carbonara sauce which is a bit unusual

A selection of 4 desserts were offered along with a fruit plate, cheese plate and ice creams

the apple tart and some sort of chocolate mousse layer cake finished off our night along with a couple of after diner drinks

I think the rushed service was because most all inclusive guests do not understand
The servers try hard but just are not very seasoned

Maybe our next visit may be for a cloudy day lunch but not for dinner

mahokid--It seems like you were a little underwhelmed with this restaurant?

In any event, thanks for taking us along on your journey. Safe travels home.

Too bad your last dinner on island wasn't up to your previous standards. Safe travels.
