OK I just have to throw in my two cents worth here. We went to Dreams for lunch today and were disappointed. In all fairness to the help I think they were going on very little sleep after New Year's Eve. We were seated at a table right near the wait station so it was not like were invisible although we were treated like that. Our waiter was quite brusque, seemed miffed that 1 of our party ordered a glass of wine and not a bottle. We had had a late breakfast so we ordered two pizzas to share between 4 people and I think he was torqued that we didn't order 4 pizzas. It reminded me of years ago at Venice at 10 pm in an almost empty sidewalk restaurant when 4 of us were going to order two pizzas for an evening snack and the waiter picked back up our silverware and said "We don't snack here" and off he went! Any way after an hour and 45 minutes I was just going to ask for our check and call it quits when he brings us one cool and one hot pizza. When I asked for ice for my now warm bottle of water you'd think I was imposing. When our wine drinking lady asked for another glass of wine because she didn't have anything to drink with her meal she got the eye roll (although he did bring it right away). I could sense that something was going on with the staff as one of the men behind the bar had already had words with a couple of waiters and then I saw him storm over to the bar across the patio with a pizza and slam it down on the counter with it's ticket and come back muttering under his breath as though was upset with his staff over there also. After asking for the check we finally had to just leave it on the table and leave without any acknowledgement from anyone. By the time we left things had really slowed down and it's not like they didn't notice us leaving. The young lady who was working the area next to us was smiley and cheerful and looked like she really cared, but not our waiter. He was cleaning and wiping tables just 5 feet from us and never stopped to see how things were going. I don't know if Bruno was there as I don't know him unless he was the dark haired man behind the bar with the black glasses who was totally having a bad day! Sorry , just had to chime in here!

cessna--It sounds like you are describing Bruno and I suspect that part of the issue was NYE hangover. Not an excuse though.

No, not an excuse, but I do have to say that we were there for lunch this past Tuesday and had wonderful, quick, and friendly service. We dealt with several different people and all of them were friendly and smiling. Food was good too. Not sure why Dreams is getting such mixed reviews or why service seems sporadic there. I hope they get their act together -- it's a pretty place.

I had a similar experience there this past week....and it wasn't after a late night with New Year's eve.
It appears as though they are experiencing growing pains and sadly those are showing BADLY.

If there is a problem you can be sure Bruno will correct it. He knows how to operate a business and take care of his customers, it has always been a pleasure frequenting one of his establishments.

I do not know Bruno personally, he had a wonderful reputation at Le Cottage. I'm sure he will take control of the situation with his staff.

There are restaurant owners on the island that really don't care if you ever return, I sincerely feel he is a good person who truly cares.

Yes, I already posted about here. But I wanted to let the OP know that others had experienced similar experiences since I was basically told that it was somehow MY fault that I had a bad experience. I was offering the OP support

I do know Bruno, and he definitely does care. I'm happy to hear that he's been at the restaurant more recently, as we didn't see him there much during our recent visit. I'm sure he'll whip those servers and the kitchen staff into shape quickly!

I had reached out to Bruno because the reviews surprised me greatly & since I love the place so much I wanted Bruno to know there were some very unhappy people. As you will read below I have copied his response to me in whole (mistakes & all but he is French so give him a break) so everyone can see he is in fact a caring & concerned owner who wants his customers to be happy. Having a business where you have to have employees representing you is never easy but it is way more difficult here & I know that first hand.....

As Bruno asked those who had issues should contact him on his Facebook page or email him at: Bruno.dreamsbeachbar@facebook.com

I hope that anyone who had a bad experience will take his apology as truly sincere & give them another try one day because when things are working right there, which is most of the time, it is wonderful......

Hi Sharon, Happy new year too , to you and and your familly. I know we got 2 bad reviews on TTOL and i'm very apologize about that : i'm not registed on TTOL and can't answer them. Also they have to go to my FB page and it will be easier for them. If they are on the island yet , they will be our gues for sure for a good lunch wih us. if ou can be my voice , i really appreciate. also my problem was : i have 22 peoples working a dreams and during 3 days we go 2 or 3 saff do no came to work : so the service was a disastre. SO now holidays is finish and it will be better at dreams for sure . tHANK TOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR SUPPORT

He is registered now. I will work with him to so that he can answer any conerns on the forum.

Bruno does NOT like any service related issues, as that is not definately his stlye at all. If there is an issue he WANTS TO KNOW, so that it can be fixed, simple as that.

Will let everybody know as it goes along, as HE WANTS TO KNOW if there are any issues with his establishment and or service. Bruno is fully capable of handliing any situation (in my opinion and then some), so let me help him so he can respond or at least let me tell you what he wants to say. He is not comfortable with english, but does a fantastic job, but he wants to make everythimg right for everybody. This is his nature and he will not accept bad service period. That is something that I know for a fact!

Granted, for many of you -- you say he is a sponsor. Yes he is, and has been for years, but we know him and the family personally. This is not anything that he wants to hear and I can tell you from the years that if there is a problem, he will fix it! He is a remarkable business owner on SXM. Along with some others, but they do not want anything like this, they do not accept it and they will do whatever to fix any issues.

Thanks Sharon for reaching out to Bruno. We have had wonderful service there and understand that issue with one or two poor reflections on the establishment. I am sure Bruno will work it out.

Over the years. How many complaints about LeCottage or anything has you ever heard or experienced? There has been basically NOTHING. that I remember, concerning the customer service from Bruno with regard to his restaurants, villa, etc.

My guess is very few or none.... if there is an issue and maybe there is (we did not experience it) but if there is, the fix is already in the works, by my guess.

You are absolutely right Eric. We have known Bruno personally for many years and always celebrated our Anniversary dinners with Bruno at Le Cottage. I don't ever remember a complaint from that establishment! If Bruno had been personally made aware of the problems experienced, they would have been resolved immediately. It is always so unfair to complain on a public forum before the business owner has had an opportunity to make things right. Hopefully the unsatisfied customers will come to join the many of us who know Bruno's business ethics and realize that he always strives for the best in any business he operates.

I do not feel it was unfair to make this bad visit known. Here's why. Throughout our visit to Dreams, we had basically been ignored. Would you have me waste MORE of my valuable vacation time seeking attention from a manager who was nowhere to be found that day? Sorry, no. I am not going to waste my time.
I posted my review here in the hopes that Bruno WOULD hear of this visit and realize that everything was NOT going smoothly. I do not expect retribution from Bruno. I just hope that he gets things together and keeps the place going. My previous review on TripAdvisor gave him 5 stars. I did not post to Trip Advisor about this visit instead choosing a smaller forum where hopefully he will hear of this.
Eric Hill asks "How many complaints have been heard of LeCottage?" I ask, perhaps there have been complaints but they were shut down here as quickly as mine was. Or perhaps other people are smarter than I am and choose NOT to voice their opinion on here unless it is positive.
Actually, I just looked on Trip Advisor and in fact, there are several complaints about poor service on Le Cottage. I am going there tonight but we know one of the waiters and expect great service.
Social Media is a place for discourse. There is nothing wrong with posting a negative OR a positive. It is simply one person's opinion on a single day. You may choose to disagree with me. And that is your right.

I happen to agree. This is the perfect forum to make things like this known. Look at how quickly people who know Bruno reached out to him and made him aware of an issue. I know I would never avoid a place that I wanted to go because someone had a bad experience especially after so many posted good experiences. JMHO

I was merely stating that you should have tried to voice your opinion first to the management before going public with this. Then if you got no satisfaction, you can try other means. I guess you were probably angry and perhaps didn't think of doing anything else at the time. I always try to resolve things privately first, but if that is not your style, so be it. I was not attacking you, but only suggesting that there are better ways to resolve problems. We can agree to disagree, but my suggestion works for many and you may find it helpful in the future.

As for Le Cottage, Bruno is no longer in charge there, so any complaints you may find on Trip Advisor do not pertain to him. Also, I would be careful regarding Trip Advisor as all posts there should be taken with a grain of salt.

Enjoy the rest of your trip and hope you are happy with your other dining experiences.

As far as LeCottage, Bruno has not been actively involved with LeCottage for quite some time, so unless the complaints on TA are old, they would have nothing to do with Bruno anyway.

I'm kind of confused....OK, so someone had a "less than stellar" experience at Dreams and posted it. Happens on this forum all the time but seems like a lot of people would rather not hear about an issue at this particular establishment, albeit an apparently isolated one. I am planning on visiting Dreams on my upcoming trip in January and given the push-back from a couple of postings I'm not sure I care to share my experience, positive or negative. I don't think I've ever seen anyone post on here that you "should voice your concerns with management before going public" and, in fact, I thought that was what this forum was all about.

I agree in that I don't think it's any consumer's responsibility (as someone stated earlier) to bring up an issue they feel unacceptable to management before they make a post here. Would it be ideal to make them aware of areas needing improvement, sure. How many have stated they didn't' care about the way their dish was prepared yet didn't bring it for fear of delaying the other diner's enjoyment of their meal. Yet, they still expressed their displeasure here about their personal experience.

On another note, this is the busiest two weeks on the island. Some of these small businesses are doing double to triple their normal business. As a result, many of the already exhausted servers are doing double shifts and or inexperienced help is brought in to help out. AND even if the owner is lucky enough to have sufficient servers, it's unlikely they have sufficient cooking staff/facilities that can keep up any semblance of the normal turnaround for a meal given the increased volume.

This is not to negate in any way the experiences being expressed but I personally would tend to cut more slack to any and all establishments during the holiday season.

I know Chuck Morton (my husband) has already voiced his opinion on this issue but I wanted to add something as well. We went to Le Cottage when Bruno was there and yes it was several years ago and on that particular night we were completely ignored during dinner there. And it wasn't a holiday and both owners were there. And although I like the menu and the wine selection at Le Cottage, we've gone to Bistro Caraibes instead since that time because of that experience. BC has always made us feel welcome and we've had great service and food there. That being said, we went to Dreams for lunch last year and loved it. And service was fine. You always have to be in the French/island mindset when dining at any of these great restaurants. But that doesn't excuse being ignored. We just don't usually go back to restaurants when we are treated that way. And yes I totally understand that sometimes there are just issues with the wait staff etc. especially during the holidays. I totally get that. But there are just too many restaurants to choose from as it is on vacation on St Maarten. Everyone has different experiences and expectations and their favorites. I like reading everyone's reports.

I've never been to Dreams but that was on our list when we are there in March. There have been more positive reviews than negative but I do feel that any comments on an experience at an establishment, good or bad, should be welcome on this forum. It does appear that the owner is trying to fix the problem, so we will give Dreams a try. It does look beautiful!

Actually several of the posts on Trip Advisor about Le Cottage were answered by Bruno. Just saying...

I went there tonight (to Le Cottage) and despite there being a HUGE party (of 20 or more people I would guess) the service did not suffer for the rest of us.

Dear Bruno,
There's no problem you can't hire yourself out of. Find some people that care as much as you do and it will be all good.

Discovered Dreams a few years ago when it first opened and fell in love with the service and ambience. Told some friends about it last year and it became their favorite beach. Can't wait until April when we revisit and plan on dinner there this year.

I have been to Dreams about 20 times, and not every time was perfect but I do still expect a great experience when I go as I know Bruno does as well. My bad days there have still been pretty fantastic. So simply stated by many of us is that you should give it another chance and that based on our ongoing experience with the place it has been consistently good. I probably expect a bit more from Bruno and his staff than most others as we have been there enough that we get to feeling entitled which I think is a natural feeling for regulars. We keep coming back so that says a lot. We also keep talking about Bruno, but David (french spelling ?) looks like he could be Bruno's brother and he also does a fantastic job and is there most days.

This happens with many places all across the island where the regulars would stand up for the place. It is natural to protect what we care about. I have been on both sides, and I guess I have learned to be careful when reviewing a place I do not care for that is popular such as Mark's, Yvettes, Bajatzu, or Toppers.

This does not equal not posting about a bad experience, but I do suggest that you are ready for the response and do not take it personally.

Cheers,
Todd
