Well we're back- to 5 inches of snow, although the day we got home it was 50 degrees. We were on "Wildcat" from Feb. 1-15. Arrived on Tortola without problem on American Airlines (never have a problem going down only coming back). We arrived on time and got to the boat by 2:30 and Bobby's delivered without any problems as usual. Sailed off to Norman Island for the first nite at the Bight. As usual we were having fun at the Willie T's then there was a fight and a guy got thrown over the rail and they closed the place-buzz killer!! Why can't people get along. Oh well. Next day sailed to the bathes, a rough sail in NW winds. Never saw it from that direction. No one at the Bathes as it was too rough so as soon as we picked up a mooring we decided to leave. Sailed to North Sound by passing the Dogs-again too rough for them. That nite I bought a sweatshirt at Saba Rock. It was actually cold at nite and none of us had brought that kind of clothing. The locals were freezing!! Next day we bravely sailed down to Jost. in huge seas-I mean HUGE-18 foot and higher swells. I never saw seas like that. It took us six hours to get to Diamond Cay with a few green crew . The bubbling pool was unbelievable in those conditions.
Went to White Bay and Great Harbour which were doable in those conditions. For several days there was a NW wind which made Cane Garden Bay, Sandy Cay a no go. Next headed off to West End to drop off some friends and no one seemed to want to sail any farther. Thank God the next day the seas laid down and we stayed on the southern side of Tortola for the next few days.
Our second week was warmer and NE winds, Thank God, because we had our family down visiting. My mother in-law who is 85, my parents in their 70's and my sisters, their spouses and kids!! 13 of us, we looked like a day charter. We sorta were as they stayed at The Tamarind Club. Which by the way was wonderful, my family loved it. They treated them like family. I would recommend them to everyone.
All in all a great and exciting vacation with a few days at the end with just the two of us. Great weather (besides a few days of heavy seas, us sailors don't really mind the challenge but a few of our guests didn't care for it) Can't wait to get back- 44 days and counting
