I'm probably one of the few people left in the western hemisphere with no facebook account - was anyone hurt? Was there major damage? Was it on a boat or on land?

Yes on land. I don't remember what's there now. Hopefully someone will chime in as to what was affected.

No. You're not alone. I don't have a Facebook account either, so there are at least two of us! Lol.

Not quite, there's me as well! Happy to participate in useful informative formats, like TTOL, but not things like Facebook.

no facebook here either but I could see the video. I can't place the buildings either. At first I thought La Sucerier bakery at the end and Be Kool at the left but then it looks like palm trees in front so I don't think so.

I just viewed another video at SXM Talks and it looks like the fire is near La Main et Pate. I say that because you can see the apartment on the left. When you walk in from The crousaint breakfast place then pass Tropicana, then turn right that's the side of the fire, not the next side where Be Kool is. There's another restaurant at the corner turn but I can't recall the name something like Brassier de Isles?

I just read a post on Trip Advisor saying every Saturday night there's a "fire show" at Marina Royal. Maybe this got out of hand and caused it??

There was also a fire at Rainbow in Grand Case but it was put out quickly.

I never joined FB either until very recently. I continue to be stunned by the number of businesses that only have a FB page.

Charlie--thanks for the link. So much for the Marina Royale being cleared of undesirable folks. That's a shame.

First came Irma, then COVID now this fire! La Main a la Pate is one of our go to places in January. We are so sad for everyone's loss especially Ricardo & staff at the restaurant. They have become friends during our 26 years seeing them. Very sad day!

Another black eye for that area.

The derelict restaurant ruins where the fire started should have been demolished and the site cleared and fenced off since it was clearly a hazard - and an eyesore. Very difficult for the other businesses there who are trying to rebuild the marina as a destination.

Dave--from the story, that's what the local businesses wanted to happen and it didn't, for whatever reason. Too bad.

Yikes. We just had lunch at Main a la pate and shopped afterwards, a couple of weeks ago.
