We plan on taking the 9am Speedy’s ferry from Road Town to Virgin Gorda next Monday and heading back on the 3:30pm. It’s our first time to VG, so we’ll definitely check out the Baths and want to stop at a few beach bars and explore the island a bit. Are there usually taxis waiting at the dock, or should we line something up ahead of time?

Anyone with experience with Speedy's? Times for pick-up and drop-off aren't specified on their site. Just curious if a car would be available first thing and someone would be around to accept the drop-off before the 3:30pm ferry. Thanks so much for the recommendation!

Hi! Very easy. They will meet you at the ferry. When you leave just leave the car at the ferry with the key in the ashtray. Reserve online

Concur on the Speedy’s. If not available, we have often used Mahogany rentals, who will also meet you at the ferry dock with the keys and contract, then you drop off at the same place. We usually use Mahogany because we stay on island and they have a deal with the place we stay. (Guavaberry Spring Bay). Mad Dogs at the Baths was our usual lunch spot. Not a beach, but we liked the view and watching the falcons hunt. Top of the Baths can be good if not overrun with cruise ship passengers. True beach bar is Poor Man’s at the Baths. Coco Maya is on the beach but fancy and tasty. Not sure if open for lunch. Fischer’s cove has a bit of beach. We haven’t been back since 2022 ( all land based) so your mileage may vary. We like lunch at Sugarcane - beautiful view and a pool. Of course Little Dix is on the beach. Leverick has a pool and kind of a beach but it is over the river and thru the woods by land. Things have probably changed since we last went SYMMV.

You can’t go to VG without a stop at Hog Heaven at least for drinks! At the top of the island with awesome views of the ocean and surrounding islands👍👍

No cruise ships in port at Tortola or VG so you picked a great day to visit VG! You’ll have ~5.5 hrs on the island, and renting a sedan from Mahogany is a good option if you plan to venture out of the Valley area.

If you are just planning to enjoy beautiful Savannah Bay, the Baths and Devil’s Bay, Mad Dog’s, and Spanishtown, consider working with one of the taxi drivers at the port. You can get dropped at these spots rather than renting, and taxi fares are not that bad. We’ve done that and they are happy to coordinate that with you!

Just a thought if you want the nice beaches, lunch with a view and not driving the island.

How many do you have? We’ve used Speedys and Mahogany and rented a Safari Truck when we had six or eight of us. Cooler and group on the back, and we drove the island. We’ve done it round trip from Leverick, and one way from Spanishtown to Leverick this Feb. Highlights were Coppermine and Hog Heaven for the views, safer access for the baths, and a great beach stop at Savannah Bay. I recall that Mahogany was $75 this year. Gotta know how to drive stick shift, low gear on the hills😎

Thanks everyone for the info. It's just two of us, we rented a vehicle with Speedy's for Monday -- looking forward to it!
